Product Description
This 1918 WWI replica trench knife is an exact copy of the trusty blade issued to troops during the First World War. Since trench warfare consisted of such close-quarter battles, the trench knife allowed soldiers defend themselves with everything down to the knuckle guard handle. The 6 3/8" AUS-6 stainless steel blade has a double-edge. The heavy duty handle also has a skull crusher. The trench knife is 11" in overall length.
Pretty decent made replica for the price. I have wanted one forever. I'm glad I live in a state where there are no laws pertaining to them.

Great replica. Always wanted one.
I always wanted one of these since I saw it as a kid in The Enforcer (Dirty Harry). Finally got this one nearly forty years later. It seems to fit my hand perfectly, is comfortable to hold, and has a nice weight to it. I really enjoy the way it feels to grip. The edges didn't come "display dull" but definitely need a sharpening. I'd definitely want this "in the trenches", but I'd like the blade to be about an inch-and-a-half longer.

Great buy!
I left a similar review for the sheath on that products review. I’ll be short.
Great buy!!!! I love it !! 5 out of 5 here. Some say in reviews that they would not use in the field. I 100% DISAGREE w that statement. The sheath needs bulking up but the knife? Excellent! Good weight and feel. This is an outright killing and bludgeoning weapon. The original AU Lion’s were only heavier. Just a little.
I highly recommend this weapon.

Good, but not great
Looks to be good quality but upon inspection found the handle loose so I took it off and seen how it is made.

2nd Buy for Me.
This is the 2nd 1918 Trench Knife I've bought at BudK, and this one was a gift. All in all, I have no complaints and as always has fast service from BudK. Its a great replica straight out of WW1 and WW2 at a fair price. I really don't understand folks who pay $25.00 and expect a one of a kind handcrafted piece.

Really cool
I am very happy with the quality of this replica. It fits in my hand so comfortably I want to hold it and not put it down. The handle is heavy but not brass yet very well made. The blade is beautiful, with clean lines and sharp tip. Great quality replica.

Amazing replica!
I was automatically exited when I bought this knife. It is very durable and I 've never had a problem when using it. The double edged blade cuts well, the knuckles punch well, and the "skull crusher"(pommel of knife) crushes well just as it does walnuts. I've never seen an actual 1918 trench knife but I've seen plenty of 1917 trench knives. As a suggestion to Bud K, you should start putting 1917 replicas on the market.

I LIKE IT!
I received my WW1 trench knife replica this morning and I was amazed how close it was to the real thing. I've seen 4 and handled 2 real ones and the Bud K version is dam close. The originals had one of the 3 makers names on the brass handle; Henry Dotson & Sons, Landers, Frary & Clary, or Oneida Community. They were also made in France under contract to the US Army and those were marked Au Lion on the blade. All of the original knives were painted black, blade & brass handle, so moon light would not reflect off it in the dark. This blade is 6 3/8" vs an original 6 3/4". All in all the Bud K WW1 Trench Knife is as good as I'll get since originals are selling for $900 to $1000.00 and upward. Keep up the good work Bud K!!

Brass Ass
It's crap. But take it down to 9.95 and I'll buy one. Also, don't waste your money on the sheath. It's green painted aluminum and doesn't have a belt loop. So, it's even more crap. They should give you a discount on the knife for being stuck with it. It's like putting a sheath on a butter knife sitting at your kitchen table.

Good enough for it's job.
This is not a workknife, this is not a survival knife. It's a fighting knife. It's meant to stab, smash, and punch with. If you want a display piece for historical purposes, this is prefect it's almost exactly like the real ones. If you want a work knife, move along. If you want a survival knife, move along. I fyou want a knife for self defence, check your laws, if this is legal in your area, pick one up.
Some people will say that the steel is bad, sure it needs sharpened frequently, but that's not a problem this is a stabbing blade, not a cutting blade, it's not supposed to be sharp, except for the point. This thing comes with a great point, I tested it myself and can ram it through plywood with a good solid lunge. The blade might come a bit loose, but the tang is threaded so just turn the nut at the back with a wrench till tight. It will do it's job of saving your life if you need it to and can use a knife properly. Sure it's material mean you shouldn't use it to process wood, but that's not what this is for anyways, is it? No it's for putting holes in people, and it will do that just fine.

Trench Knife
Very nice repo , and you can`t beat the price . I would like to see a repo of the original Spike style trench knife that preceded this one . Would be another nice collectable .

A piece of history.
I have a real WWI trench knife and this is a great copy, although the handle seems to be zinc instead of bronze. A coat of paint will cover a multitude of sins. Has a goo blade and should function as designed. I like it!

WWI Trench Knife
I was very impressed with the quality of the knives. I really feel these could be used in a personal defence situation. You can't beat the fact they just plain look cool, also. Another win from BudK.

WWI Trench Knife
Sharp out of the box. Has good weight to it. One good swing and the brass would knock out anyone. The skull crusher is impressive, broke up my dog's beef marrow bone with one hit. It's a good buy at $20, but BOGO made it an even better deal.

WW1 Trench Knive
This is actually a pretty cool knife 1. It's Sharp, 2. It has Brass Knucles, and 3. It has a point on the handle that could do some damage. Over all it's cool as a WW1 military memoriabilia. I think military buff, This is one knife you'll want.

true copy of the original
I have my grandfather's original...and it is in mint condition, not a spot of rust or a scratch on it.This is a true copy.Just wish the scabbard came with it.The orig. scabbard has pins on it to attach to a Webb belt. Buy this....can't do much better unless you got an original.

tough knife
i think this knife is going to be in my bug out bag. a good fighting tool. i have done some knife fighting training, it seems to work well. it hard to knock out of one grip and it could bludgeon. if the blade ever breaks, i can always replace it with another a threaded rat tail tang blade.

Trench Knife
Appears to be a very good knife for combat. Though my knuckles fit if I crank them sideways.(I won`t be disarmed) WWI guys must have had small hands. Very sharp out of the box and everything is tight. I also bought the metal sheath which works well in a boot to keep from cutting yourself. All around I like it alot.
Gloria Grajeda May 04, 2009 (5 out of 5)
A great piece of history to own. It isn't sharpened at all, making this purely a collection piece. It's incredibly solid however.

Nice reproduction
Overall a nice knife. The blade comes fairly dull, but with a bit of work with a draw sharpener, I got a razor edge on both edges. The metal sheath is light weight, but fits well. I use this as a home defense knife kept under my mattress. Three defensive uses for this are; the blade, the knuckle punch and the scull crusher on the end of the handle. I pity the loser who tries to enter my home!

Small hands.
Seems sturdy and a good replica. It definitely is on the smaller side, very tight thin finger loops. If you are a bigger man with plump fingers or size Xtra Large in gloves or bigger it's gonna be uncomfortable.

Not Close to the Real Thing BUT Still a Good Deal!
This is a pretty nice piece of steel for the price. The blade is kind of low quality - the point of mine was rather porous but the fit to the handle was tight and the blade was also rather sharp. It is Chinese stainless steel and this is not a heavy duty field knife but neither was the original!!! :D The handle is nice and heavy but not solid brass (one corner was mashed and scratched and you could see the pot metal underneath). The finger holes of the brass knuckles are pretty good sized. The sheath is thin metal and initially the friction fit was tight. However, a few minutes sliding the blade in and out resulted in no friction and the blade just falls out. The scabbard has two prongs on the back to secure it to the web belt, just like the original.

pretty good
overall good knife looks and feels great. the dagger itself is bolted to the skull crusher and it easily loosens so then the knife is loose. other then that good knife

don't over tighten nut
I got this knife on May 11, 2010. when I took it out of the box, it had been cold out and my fingers were clumsy. I tried to put in the sheath and accidentally stabbed my finger. Make sure you get the knife in the sheath or it will make you bleed. I forgot to mention not to over tighten the skull crusher nut. I was tightening it and I over tightened it and the screw that held in place snapped. I will be ordering a new one if budk warranties it. Overall good knife 4/5. Nut problem arose of my own carelessness. Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. We have updated the review to reflect the appropriate spelling.

Decent Clone
It looks good and is made of OK quality materials. Like most of these clones, the blade is loose in the grip even with the skull crusher nut tightened all the way down. Epoxy in the grip fixed that. Good knife that can be used for its intended purpose. The sheath looks the part but wouldn't hold up under use. Together, they make a very nice display item.

It's Okay
This knife's okay. Has no edge out the box but that's easily fixed with a Samurai Pro knife sharpener! I rated it 3 stars solely because it's not "full tang" like a true combat knife should be. And believe me, I've looked everywhere for one and there isn't any manufacturers out there who will make it like LF&G and HD&S did in 1918 with the original Mark I. Gorilla Glue works well to seal up the cavity in the handle.

trench knife
The blade is dull, stainless steel, made in china. The fit is good with the blade, the knife will make a nice display unit to help round out a WW1 collection. Those who have seen it are impressed with its heft and design, overall a good value. The scabbard is a bit of flimsy stamped steel but works for display...
