The blade came reasonably sharp, much better than most, for sure! The engraving has a fine edge and looks great. The sheath was, I guess fuzzy would be the best word. It had a layer of dust and the snaps were rusted. I tried to unsnap the sheath and and the closure broke so I will be fixing that. Altogether the sheath came free with the knife and that's what I bought, mvery pleased with the blade , hilt, scales fit and finish!

Every time you pull this knife out of the sheath, you will say, "Now that's a knife !" And it came sharp, just needed some touch up to put a finishing edge on it. With this knife in your hand, you know you have a substantial weapon to back up your gun in a fight. And the price point makes it accessible for anyone. Many thanks to Timber Rattler for making this blade available. And did I mention it has a nice leather sheath ? The Dundee would approve.

In comparison to my ka-bar the price is fantastic, and the steel is comparable to aircraft grade aluminum to the teeth! This wonderful piece of equipment will surely last you a lifetime; as long as you dont plan on living more than a day and a half. Buy enough of them and you could maybe stop a 45acp. definetly an investment to someone who is foolish with investments!

For the price I truly expected a skinny blade that would break if you ever dropped it, wow was I wrong!!! This thing is a true beast!! Too bad it's going in a display cabinet rather than on my belt. It weighs close to 3 lbs and even though the blade isn't perfect for a show piece it's still a show stopper. In my opinion there's nothing out there better for the price.

This knife is a beast and heavy. It is well made, very sharp out of the box. It will hang on the left side of my gun belt that holds my 1851 Navy Sheriff .44 black powder that i got from BudK. I order a lot from BudK. Never a problem.

I have a lot of knives but this one is in the top 5 for me. First off it’s a huge chunk of steel. It comes sharp and ready to go to work. Brass guard and pommel make a good with the wood handle which all feel solid in the hand. The sheath is really good as well. I’ve always been a fan of the sheaths that timber rattler puts together. I recommend this knife for the outdoorsman who wants a great knife by his side to tackle anything the wild can dish out or it would even look great as a collector piece. Either way at this price, it’s a win win for everyone.

I recently bought one. It's actually really nice. Nice leather sheath. I'd say the sheath is worth $20 or $30 alone. Knife is nice, no sharp spots on the handle, nice and smooth.

So I bought this knife instead of a small hatchet for camping. With that said I haven't used it yet. I am here to tell you that putting a razor sharp edge on this beast is a challenge to say the least. I'm a free hand sharpener kind of guy and I spent hours on this blade because the bevel on the edge was garbage. It will shave now. I don't blame anyone. Its a well made knife for under $30. Seems like it will be very durable. The sheath is ok but I can tell it will fail at the belt loop first. I'm still going to give it 5 stars because I knew exactly what I was getting myself into when I bought it and so should you.

I purchased one for about $30, budk shipped it to me fast and I was impressed with it's workmanship; I then took it out back to chop small trees and it performed like an axe. I highly recommend this "Macho" blade, it's a real man's bowie!

Pound for pound (value for $), this is number ONE (maybe tied with TR77). I have 50 or so knives is my collection, ranging from $20 range to $100 range... This knife, coming in at $29.99, is absolutely right there with the best of my knives, built like a TANK, true full tang, 1/4" thick, beast of a brass guard, beautiful beak pommel, gorgeous classic bowie blade. This is a $100 bowie IMO. Is it perfect fit and finish? No. Did it come dull? Yes. Do I care? No. You can sharpen it, and any imperfections in symmetry or finish is overshadowed by its stubborn rugged beauty. If you like to beat on your knives, and if you like to split logs with a knife (batoning) rather than an axe, this is your prototype. I brought a bunch of big bowies on a camping trip, had a truck deliver a whole mountain of firewood to our site, and I ended up splitting it all with this knife exclusively, and I mean I was HAMMERING this thing through fat knots and impossible logs, it was abuse, no doubt, kept waiting for something to break, blade to warp, crack, something... nope, this thing is a rock. (Granted I had already wrapped my handle in paracord, for added comfort when chopping, so that probably guards against any loosening of scales or anything, but i don't know that it was needed). Long story short, to this day if someone asks what knife in my collection is not only one of my best knives but the most bang for your buck, it is this beast, no doubt. Get one, you will not regret it. ~dan

First off, the blade is dull when it arrives but after you get it sharpened, it becomes a valuable too! I live out in the Alaskan wilds and I personally use mine for chopping down brush and cutting meat. I even used it to help butcher out a bear that attacked me some time ago (No, I didn’t kill the bear with the knife, just butchered it with the knife) and it did the job alright, not perfect but at least it helped chopping bone and cutting ligaments. The sheath needs to be reinforced via sowing better string for the string used hold the loop that goes around your belt will break after a month. Other then that I still use mine and carry it with me wherever I go! Well worth it I think!

As a knife collector, I recently bought the Timber Rattler Outlaw Bowie Knife as my first purchase with this company. The package came quickly, especially considering all deliveries are taking excessive amounts of time during the Covid 19 pandemic. The sheath is thick and well made. The blade is full tang and came exceptionally sharp! There were some small imperfections like the guard not being perfectly symmetrical, and a couple minor imperfections in the handle. But this knife is still worth way more than $30! I would maybe care if it were a hundred or more dollars, but I couldn't ask for more with the price and the quality of this knife.

Had this for 6 years now and decided to give it a review. I'm attaching pictures as well to show the public what six years of hard abuse did to this. I sharpened it down to a razor edge the day it arrived 6 years ago and never sharpened it again. I've cut down small trees, split wood, chopped up oak, cedar, and pine, I've chopped up plastic and rubber, it's been dropped onto rocks, concrete, been left outside in the rain ice and snow and left sticking in mud many times. When I bought this it was only 19.99 and I've abused much more expensive bowies including gil Gibbons (TRASH for the price they brake easy) United and cold steel. This and only 7 others have stood up to my abuse. Make no mistake you can use this as a very very reliable throwing knife I've got several videos to prove it... that's when I found the ONE lie about it. The handle is NOT held together by all those "brass" pins. It's only held together by the top 3 skinny pins and the 1 bottom smaller pin. The top middle pin that's larger than the 3 outer tiny pins is for show and so are the 2 middle large pins. I beat the hell out of the handle and that's how I know. But it still holds together. Just dont abuse the handle and it will chop wood better than a hatchet. Thank you timber!!! Easy 5 stars.

I bought my TR outlaw about an year ago. Out of the box it had a dull edge but i got it fixed from a pro knife smith. I often take it out doors and have inflicted even some abuse on it but its holding on pretty well. Its big, heavy, well made good looking knife too. I would strongly recommend it because for that much money i dont think you are going to find a better knife

I bought this knife with no real expectations based on the price. Mine was both good looking and sharp. I have sharpened it only once. That was after I put it to work. I used it outside in place of a machete and my hatchet. I was extremely surprised at how well it worked. It's a good looking knife that is also a handy tool. I own many knives in all price ranges, but I really favor this one for outside use. The sheath is fine considering the price. I will probably make a new one for it later as is my habit, but if you are looking for a good outside knife that is really an all around tool then this is the one to get.

Really heavy knife. Very cool looking -- mine came looking almost exactly like the picture. Only issues I see with it are factory defects that are filled in with some sort of polish or resin (in between areas not sitting flush). This does not seem to be an issue, as the knife is really solid. Hopefully it stands up with use, time will tell. But for the price I paid -- it is certainly worth it.

For the price, I am very happy. As others have stated, some flaws are filled in with polish and resin, and not everything is completely flush. But it's $20. It's solid. Its big, and its a beast.

For $20 dollars, this thing is a lot of knife! Very heavy, pretty and seems like it could chop pretty well. Came pretty dull like others have said, and I noticed right away there were many areas of the knife that were flawed and filled in with some kind of resin or polish. Again, for the price and after reading about the knife I expected these and am not bothered by them. Overall this thing feels solid and has not loose parts or pins. Time will tell if it holds up but for the price it is not that much of a gamble all things considered. Oh and the sheath — I don’t think there is anything wrong with it, fits the knife well and the quality is what you would expect paired with a knife in this price range.

I have several knives in my collection... Timber Rattler Outlaw is the most recent... I paid around 40 USD plus shipping. The on I received came up to my expectations. The finish is good and 2.6 plus pounds of 440 steel makes it a hefty stylish Bowie knife. The only thing missing is a sharp edge. Butguess I can live without it as I got a good looking, sturdy and we'll balanced knife that can be used for chopping, bettoning, throwing and still holds itself. Sheath that comes with is is OKAY! but again it under 40 $ knife. Regardless of the price I would've rated it 3 outta 5 but considering the price I would say 5/5

This seems like a solid, beautiful, well balanced knife. I ordered it because I always wanted a traditional, regular Bowie. Only one problem. It does not come with an edge. If you do not have the equipment and skills for sharpening a knife like this, don't buy it. Unless you can take it to a professional for sharpening. I am having it exchanged for one that comes sharpened.

a solid sell made knife/sword. the knife is tightly fitted with many pins holding the handle in place. Seems to be as good or better than identical knives costing four times as much.

What a KNIFE, I went camping in California, with the guys, amazing, what this Knife can do. Well balance and sharp. The weight of this knife is perfect. What else can you ask for. This knife does what I always wanting to do, Have the beast in my hand.

I'm very satisfied with the look and the quality of the knife. it is very heavy. the blood Groove is nice and straight and true the blade is very thick. it is as well balanced as it could be for having such a large blade. it was duller than any butter knife when I received it. a little while with a polishing pad and an angle grinder and later on this week some whet stone work it will be perfect. already cut my finger accidentally from the point just by bumping it. sending it to school for training, it should only cut when I tell it to. a great buy for anyone who wants a big knife for batoning wood, whacking limbs, slamming through some big hunks of meat, but not trimming fingernails. It’s a great knife but it does have some problems the Sheth is very poor quality and the gard on the blade broke after I tried to chop some wood with it it has a good heat treat on the blade but the handle hurts your hand after holding it too much

Purchased this Big Bowie as my first Bowie knife and I do not regret the purchase. Was not concerned about sharpness because knifes don't stay sharp. The construction of the knife is greater than I EXPECTED for the price. Will buy from Cutlery USA again

This is a beast of a knife. Big, heavy, solidly built, and a true monster, but one word of warning. Mine came so dull I doubt it could cut cake. I have come to expect any knife I order, form anywhere, to come a bit dull, but this one was REALLY dull. Don't buy it unless you are willing to put the work in to sharpen it . That being said, I DID put a scary sharp edge on it, and ground the tip to a more sharper point, and now, it really is a great knife. For the money, you just can't beat it. I wish the blade was made from regular carbon steel, so I could blue it, but hell, for 20 bucks, and a knife this solidly built, I am not gonna complain. I would buy it again. It is a really cool looking knife, and is well built, and a good conversation piece, and a good tool if you are out int he woods, and want to chop, split, and cut wood. I chopped a old dead tree that was about 3- 3/ 12 thick, and it came down like I had an axe, lol. Took huge chunks of wood out at a time. Then I split it into kindling by batonning it, and the knife shows no wear or tear from it. It holds up to the abuse. If you know how to sharpen a bade, or are willing to pay someone else to do it, then yeah, buy it. You won't regret it.

I've used this knife on a regular basis. It works as a hatchet or a large knife. It's my favorite because it can take abuse. I've cut small trees and keep it with me for self defense. It's big enough to use as a club with the sheath on.

Like others. It was pretty dull but sharpens up good. The sheath folks don't like is kinda cheesy but it'll work. Well made ,no loose parts or cracks so I recon it'll do for what it cost. I'll use it here in the farm to keep my good moves out of harms way.

This knife is so much bigger than the pictures make it seem, once you pick it up you can't help feeling like you need a tree to chop down, or a bear to hunt. Blade doesn't come all that sharp, but that's easy to fix with a stone, just takes some time. Overall it's a sweet massive blade that is well worth $20

A very quality knife for a great price. Heavy duty, and mostly sharp out of the box. A little time with a diamond stone and now is sharp enough to skin critters with. Good for chopping and other camp chores. Wish I would have had this knife years ago. This one will get good use for a long time to come. A serious knife for serious outdoors use, definitely recommend this knife to any who need a good wilderness tool. After two days of abuse it still looks good and kept its edge. Again, a great knife for a great price.

This is a lot of knife for the money. The sheath is real leather but uses foam for the spacer. The blade is evenly ground on mine which is somewhat rare with Pakistan made blades. Mine had no edge and an awful degree on the edge but for this price it's a small detail.

Hefty knife for the price but it requires a LOT of sharpening. Suggest if you buy for everyday use take it to a butcher or a machine shop to get the edge you want. Otherwise good for hanging on a wall or for western type re-enactments.The leather sheath is actually very well made though.

I've been collecting knives and swords for over 30 years and I've seen a lot of the "Hi-Tech" steels used in expensive knives. This Bowie ranks up there with some of the best brands I've ever used. My order arrived quickly and everything was well packed to start things off. I was very impressed with the "Outlaw" from the moment I picked it up. The knife is heavy! The hardwood slabs used for the handle were machined well, leaving no gaps or cracks. The slabs are held in place by SEVEN brass pins! Both the brass pommel and guard fit snug with no rattles and movement. The blade is stainless steel. These days, SS gets a bad reputation compared with the dozens of fancier steels. The single most important thing to remember when deciding and a steel for a knife is what it's purpose is going to be. I certainly wouldn't use Sandvik to chop kindling and I wouldn't consider using 440 to build an expensive, fancy "gentlemans's knife". Stainless steels cover everything from surgical instruments to basic pocket knives to monsters like this blade. Stainless steel is what I would actually prefer using as a workhorse blade. One that can chop through heavy brush, trim stick to set a rabbit trap, cut kindling for a fire and even prepping a deer for butchering. The knife will need some time on a whetstone. It did have a fairly decent edge when it arrived, but nothing near satisfactory. I use Japanese wet stones on all my swords and started using them for my knives a few years ago. You won't need a super fine edge on this blade if you plan on using it the way I do - a camp knife for heavy duty work. For what it's worth, I think that $20 for this knife is a steal! You won't be disappointed

Holy Cow this is a big knife! I mean I knew it would be big but until I actually saw it I didn't realize just how big it would actually be! This thing is freaking massive! I mean wow! This knife is definitely worth 20 bucks! The only complaints I have is the glue on the sheath is already pealing back and the stamp on the sheath is a but flawed, as well as a few minor minor scratches you barely even notice so really, no actual complaints. (oh, there's a tiny tiny tear in the holding strap on the sheath which might be an issue later...?) I can't wait to test this out but first reactions I was just blow away by the size. I love this thing! I'm not sure if it's practical for use for someone of my small size but I am definitely going to put it through some paces first chance I get and if I get spare cash I might buy more!

I have never bought anything from Budk but I am amazed at the prices and the quality of the products I ordered, as well as the quick service in which I received my order. I bought this Bowie Knife after some research on several knifes, The quality for the price was fantastic. I read a lot about the condition of the knife when purchased. I must have gotten one of the best ones or the other reviews were not true. Granted it wasn't razor sharp out of the box, but I didn't expect it to be. This thing is HUGE and Heavy....The blade was polished, the handle is tight, and none of the brass was smudged or in rough shape. It sure is an intimidating knife just to see it. The sheath is leather, though not a quality leather but what do you expect for less than $20.00 I am very pleased with my knife and it was the first of what I am sure will be many more purchases. Thanks Budk for such a smooth ordering process. I love my new Knife!

Try to hold this knife and not smile! !) I got a newer sheath with a smaller belt loop than some in older reviews, works great. Blade is beautiful. Imperfections sure but for $20 possibly the best value in low-mid ($0-100) range, large knives anywhere. Very capable, heavy duty knife. Don't worry about hurting it, at the end of the day its going to still be in great shape. If you are thinking for a gift for a manly man, Get it! This will not be like the sweater I got for Christmas. This knife will make someone happy! BTW, mine arrived in 3 days, just saying. TY.

PROS: full tang.high quality, very comfortable to hold, well balanced, looks very nice and is dang near unbreakable. Handmade CONS:teeny tiny imperfections in the metal from handmade. Almost 3 pounds that could be good and bad. Came Pretty dull, And the sheath is very flimsy as nice as it looks. This is my favorite bowie. I ordered two and it cuts thru coconuts and wood like crazy. Cannot find a better bowie for even $100

After looking at all the reviews on budk and watching numerous videos on youtube,I picked up this knife and the Timber wolf full tang ninja sword. I couldn't be more satisfied. The sheer size of the western outlaw bowie inspires fear. I think I'll sharpen it a bit but that's no problem. I ordered on Oct. 19th and recieved my order on the 22nd. That's with free shipping and a free cap. Very cool. I think I found the place to buy my xmas gifts. Thank you so much budk. You have a new very pleased customer. The ninja sword is sharp as hell, the box it was shipped in stood no chance! Great place to buy inexpensive quality knives and other cool stuff.

It is a pretty nice knife. very intimidating. The blade wasn't razor sharp, but after a little work, you can get it there. Warning, it is pretty hefty, which makes it a bit slow on the return stroke. So, it isn't the quickest blade if you're into FMA or combat training. it does look sexy though, kind of reminds me of the knife from Rambo 3. All-in all, not bad for the price.

This is the kind of knife you need hunting for BigFoot. I wanted a good hunting and field knife, one that would take a lot of abuse. Eureka!! I found it, and you can too! I see it comes in Damascus steel, I am thinking about buying that one too. But for now I'd like to sharpen this Bowie to a razor's fine edge, and get it ready for service...Happy Hunting from Wyandotte National Citizen ,Thomas

Good for basic defense combat. Reliable and sturdy. Bearings may shift, but not so much you can't hammer them back in. Keeps sharpness if maintained.

When i think Bowie knife , i think of the Western Outlaw by T.R. . This thing is built like a tank. Super thick heavy steel. Full tang. Almost 17" of hacking power. I got my first at a pawnshop used, for $25. When i saw it on budk for 19.99 i bought 2 more. Now im thinkin about buying 2 more. You cant go wrong with this folks. It aint a cheap copy. Its the real damn deal. Sam Bowie himself woulda been proud to carry this bad boy.

These knives are not perfect but they don't cost $200 either. I got it for $19.99 and received free shipping because I ordered the jungle fury bowie also. Very pleased with the overall knife. Has a lot of heft to it and in just a few minutes it was very sharp.

Outlaw is a good name for this knife. This Knife is huge. My wife was impressed when she saw it and even more impressed when she saw the invoice. Great Balance and Quality. I will be adding a leg strap to the sheath since it hangs down to my knee. Thanks to the team at BUDK and I will definitely be back for more.

I just got my timber Rattler Knife couldn't believe the size of this monster beautiful handle just a little rough on one rivet but you have to look real hard to see that the blade is a bear killer if need be. the brass around the handle makes look very expensive. Great price for under $ 25.00. I thought there was another knife 7 and a half inch to but who cares when you got a 5 star Daniel Boone knife (just kidding about Daniel Boone).going to get my son one to. Thanks and right on time.

I purchased one approx. 8 ? years ago. it took a little time to get used to how heavy it was. you can't just use this for slicing Birthday cake. well.. I spose you could to show off. I had to Mod the sheath a little. it's the largest and best Bowie knife I've ever bought. and if your on a project and forgot your hammer one day......... if I "choke up on the handle and wrap my index finger over the hilt into the cutaway if fits my large hand perfectly but it's still not that that easy to wield it, it's a pretty heavy chunk of Metal. Sometimes I hold while watching the TV or a vid to get used to the weight. I always keep it oiled and soak the sheath with machine oil to make it water resistant. it's a nice chocolate brown now. Everyone stares at it where ever I go with it. I fib and say it's $250. it's when I remove it from the sheath and show it to them that their eyes light up and ask where they can get one. I say I had it custom made and it's one of a kind (sometimes) depending... : ) I have quite a few Blades and this is in my top 5. 5 stars

I would Recommend this knife, it can't be beat for this Price.

(This is a follow up on my original review.) Took my knife to the Saturday Market to get it sharpened by the knife guy. I dropped it off and wandered around for an hour before returning to get my knife. When I got there, there were about half a dozen people standing there just looking at my knife (in sheath) sitting on the counter. Upon realizing that it was mine, a woman asked if she could see it... the others moved closer. I removed it from the sheath and there was a collective gasp of awe around me. I picked up a piece of card stock and made several slices... like a hot knife through butter. "That should work". "Wow". "Where did you get that". etc. People guessed the price between $100 and $200. (Several people also thanked me for carrying my pistol to protect others). The knife guy said it was a good quality knife, but the metal was a little soft. I just ordered 5 more. One for my neighbor, who wanted one the second he saw mine. I plan on selling the other 4 at the outdoor market... for $80 each. Thanks again BUDK.

I just received my Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie Knife. Quick delivery time. After removing layers of bubble wrap and plastic bags, my eyes beheld... exactly what I expected. It was identical to the pictures. Not even close to being "razor sharp", but I really didn't expect it to be. After a thorough inspection I found a few minor flaws, the biggest being a rivet that has a chip in it... nothing major. Hey, I expected a $20 knife... but I was wrong. If this knife was perfect, and if I wanted it for a show piece, I would pay over $100 for it. But I'm going to use this big hulk of a knife to do manly things in the wilderness. That's what it was made for. It is solid, heavy and well made. It will do everything that my machete and hatchet combined will do: hack brush, cut limbs and trees, chop wood, cut meat and bone, intimidate bears... I think that this knife may have failed quality control because of the chipped rivet so it wasn't polished, sharpened, and finished as though it was being sold for $120. I'm fine with that. I'm going to spend a few bucks at a local knifesmith to get the top of the blade ground into an actual edge and sharpen both edges and it will be perfect. The sheath is exactly like the pictures and seems to be pretty well made. It has a large belt loop that makes it easy to remove the knife by tilting it forward. This is BY FAR the best knife I have ever bought for under $50. Buy 2, someone will want yours. Now I'm off to order a slightly smaller version for my girlfriend. Thank you BUDK!

This was another great gift from my wife. The blade is thick and big enough to run through a grown man or heavy enough to beat an opponent. The handle is very smooth and comfortable in your hand almost feels like glass. Sheath is well made I added super glue on the end stiches to ensure they will not come undone and it made the stitching nice and sealed. You could easily chop trees with this bowie but thats what an axe or hatchet is made for. A bowie is not made for throwing at trees like I have seen some write on bowie reviews complaining the tip broke! Well yeah the tip could break as its not a throwing knife for trees not to mention if not thrown perfectly straight the weight alone and force could snap any tip on a knife this size. Now if thrown at an oponent the tip would not break as humans are not hardwood trees! Use common sense and if not well its your fault you break it. Any knife large or small is a tool that if used right and maintained properly should last. Screwdrivers are for prying not knives. Very happy with all my bowies from budk! I rate this 5 stars and am thinking about buying a couple more. Has some dings and imperfections in it but nothing that is bad and in fact makes it mine. Too much perfection to me in a knife makes it a clone. The handle is perfect and tight no wiggles in any part of the knife. The blade is not razor sharp but will be soon. It is sharp enough however to do serious damage such as chopping. Cuts rope no problem. I wouldnt want my hand or arm on a stump with the blade coming down on it. Thanks Budk for a great value and product!

I wanted a true full tang chopping knife and this one will surely serve that purpose. Along with it's value pricing, the one I received mid 2016 has a near (100%) fit and finish. Very nice! If a large and reasonably priced / finished bowie meets your critera, then the TR65 should make your short list.

Can't beat the price! First Bowie I've ever owned and I love it! Heavy, solid, nice construction. The Grey Hardwood handle has almost a pearl-like finish, and w/all the Brass, very nice looking knife! The sheath is nice too, all leather as far as I can tell w/the Timber Rattler logo embossed in the middle of the sheath. My only "Con" is that it was about as dull as a butter knife & needs to be sharpened. Other than that, VERY nice knife for the price. Very happy!

For the money you can't beat this deal. This was my first purchase and I am very happy and will be back. The only negative is it is not razor sharp. A sharp knife will easily slice a piece of paper this one wont. It's OK I will sharpen it myself to be razor sharp.

I have just about every other T-Rattler Bowie. This one has all the best features. Mega-weight, huge size, blade thickness, handle-style, and a leather sheath that looks like it's 30 years old. Very cool. The loop is stitched on , not cheapie pop-riveted. Just a great Bowie. Like a previous review, you almost want to name this knife. I'm thinking "Lurch".

I love my bowie knife so much I miss it when I leave it at home ha! I named her Metalocalypse after the Dethklok comedy cartoon! She comes with a decent edge but you'll want to sharpen her. Gorgeous grey wood handle...beautiful leather sheath... Indiana carry laws permit me to carry any length of blade in public and this is one inexpensive knife you can be proud of.

You can't go wrong with knife. It's as big a bowie as you will find. Yes, it is stainless steel. However, it is nearly a quarter inch thick and the blade is almost 12 inches and it's full tang. You have to hold it in your hand to really appreciate it. The fit and finish is good. The sheath is of surprisingly good quality. Mine fits perfectly. I honestly don't see how they make any profit off this knife. It compares to knives 3 times the cost. I give it five stars and will buy more Timber Rattler knives in the future. Well done Budk.

I used mine to teach my wife how to build an emergency shelter. The heavier weight made it easier for her to chop and hack her way through branches. It kept a sharp edge and the sheath is made of nice thick leather. I bought a second one as a gift for my brother.

Can't believe you can get a knife like this for less than $20 .Its made in Pakistan not China, unbelievable quality! They said the guard is brass plated but it's actually solid brass. My first purchase from Budk. For this price i couldn't pass it up. Fantastic price for such a solid well built knife. good weight, not terribly unbalanced, feels good. looks great. Easily worth more than the regular list price, Let alone the sale price. and it got here in 3 days. it's not perfect. the leather sheath isn't the best leather, there are some manufacturing marks on it, a minor knick in the wood by one of the brass pins, and "razor sharp" is a bit of an exaggeration, but don't let that sway you. this is still a beautiful and solidly built knife. you get much more than you pay for with this one.

I'm as impressed with this knife as everyone else here is. I have always wanted a Bowie knife and that's what this is. I thought it was a little heavy and unbalanced until I discovered the finger notch at the blades hilt. This thing'll scare the heck out of anybody (if that's your intent). I like this knife and sheath a lot.

The over all knife is nice the steel is strong I cut down a holly tree that was more than 12 inches wide. But the edge of the blade holds up good. the only problem I had with this knife was the handle the pins on both sides need to be mushroomed better they came loose after a while. I would recommend this knife to any one it is a great chopper and good for skinning. The sheath needs to be sowed up better I had to re stich it also it needs to be made of real leather.

I have thr jungle fury and this bowie. This thing is super thick and extremely strong. It came pretty sharp bit I worked on it for about 20 minutes and now it's a paper slicer. This thing holds it's own against $100 bowies. The full tang blade is no joke and almost a 1/4 of an inch thick. It's so heavy; I don't know how Budk can ship it without losing money at their standard rate. If you're reading this.....don't hesitate to buy this one. Seriously.

I purchased one of these few months ago and it is a very big knife, sturdy, sharp out of the box, full tang, decent sheath. Used a 1" belt sander on edge up to 600 grit, then a leather stropping belt. Now RAZOR sharp, and will shave hair on my arm. Good addition to your knife collection.

This is a very sturdy knife and for the price it's as good as it gets. It's full tang and hefty. As for the "rusting and pitting" mentioned below I'd recommend not using the included leather sheath. A similar knife that will hold up better will run you 3 to 5 times the price or more. 5 stars for a $20.00 knife.

I saw a copy of this knife on a TV reality show recently. I gave a copy of this knife to a friend, who prizes it highly. The knife features potential as a camp tool processing wood, chopping limbs, part time in the camp kitchen and if need be a fierce weapon.

The problem is not the knife it's the sheath, leather holds a lot of moisture so you need to oil the inside and outside of t sheath and oil the blade. I prefer motorkote, it stays in the metal for about three years. Once you oil the sheath you shouldn't have any problems with rust.

I have had this knife for some time now, understanding the old saying " you get what you pay for" I bought the knife anyway. When I first saw the knife I was impressed, very heavy and seemed to be made well, yes it had some flaws but nothing to squawk about, I put the knife in the sheath and left it there until the next day, when I pulled it out of the sheath to look at it again it was rusted up to no end, no problem I can clean that up, well it cleaned up but it was pitted, not only that the brass guard turned green as well. No matter what I do to the knife, polishing, buffing it won't stop developing rust. I have to keep it oiled up and wrapped in waxed paper to keep any more corrosion from developing.

I was really impressed by how thick and heavy this knife is. The brass was a little tarnished when it came, and the sheath was covered in mold or something, which came off easily with a damp rag. However, I am really just concerned about functionality, so for only $20 I am really pleased with this knife.

I bought this bowie about a year and a half ago, and i only just recently broke the scales off of the handle. This thing has been thrown into countless trees and has hit too many cinderblocks to count. The blade is scratched up, but still sharp enough to slice almost anything. I've purchased many knives in my lifetime, but this is the only one to survive as long as it has. If you're thinking about buying this, do it. You will not be disappointed.

This is one awesome knife. Not only can you slice.dice and chop with it, but will never worry about the handle breaking off. This knife has more structural strength than my favorite hammer. The Timber Rattler is destined to become an heirloom to last for generations.Thank you BUDK for offering such a quality crafted knife.

I'm buying a case of them for my buddies, THIS KNIFE is the best value I've seen in years! I tried to destroy it during our cook out, this thing just loves abuse!chopped wood, vines, cut rope, quartered frozen meat, chopped ice, it just DOES NOT CARE!I'd love a better sheath though.

I just got this knife in the mail and it is legend... wait for it... dary! In all seriousness though, this knife is the thing that legends are made of. It's sharp, it's hefty, it's built like a tank, and it is awesome. When you wield this knife you may find that you lose the ability to speak in full sentences, as the only thing coming out of your mouth will be WOW! or DUDE!. If you like bladed weapons, I mean you must if you're on Budk, then you must buy this knife.

This blade is absolutely amazing. I collect knives and bought 4 bowies, 1 for me, 3 as gifts and this one went to my cousin for his birthday and when it arrived i instanlty knew i had made the right choice. It is well crafted and beautifully designed. The weight is perfect for any out door or self-defense application. Quality is one reason i love budk and this knife proves that in over 25 years, they are still providing great qualities, deals, and prices to their valued customers

Great knife, bought two and gave one to my brother. Both came pretty sharp, I sharpened mine to a razor edge now I can shave with it. I like the weight, it's one of my favorites in my collection. I've even cut down some trees with it. Thanks buck. I would recommend it and if it comes flawed or really dull just send it back for a new one. The customer service is great!

i have nothing but good thing to say about this knife. it it heavy, really heavy, and has a good build and feel to it. excellent quality knife. and good detail. the knife includes the following specs. -zebra wood handle with heavy duty brass pins -Cr17 (surgical steal) blade -brass hawk bill bolster -heavy brass guard -high quality sheath -deap blood groove (both sides) if i had to nitpick this knife with any fault id say it wasn't sharp enough out of the box, but i like my knives literally razor sharp so maybe i'm just picky. and the sheath was singly stich and did not have a lanyard.

Fantastic knife at a great price! I had ordered another item from Bud K but to get free shipping I needed to add a little more to the order, so I figured here was a chance to check out this Bowie knife that had so many great reviews and added it to my order. I was skeptical based on the price, but it arrived today and I must say it is just an excellent piece. It was MUCH larger than I expected and very heavy! It was razor sharp, and everything was nice and tight, the full tang blade was perfectly fitted to the wood handle. I can see this being passed down through the generations. The leather sheath fit perfectly and seems heavy duty and was also well made. All in all, this was one of the best purchases I made from Bud K, and I may just order another.

I ordered 2 of these knives. One for myself and one for my cousin. Both arrived in good, very good condition and reasonably sharp. I recommend using a diamond encrusted sharpening rod to refine the edge. I was expecting less of the sheath after reading some reviews, but it was better than I expected. This is definitely a power knife.

If you've been ordering from BudK for awhile you've built up a tolerance to greatness. You are gonna need it. When I removed this knife from the sheath I was barely able to control the amount of AWESOME that radiated from the blade. I was instantly struck with visions of knights in armor riding flaming black motorcycles down a road made of barb wire and saw dust. I knew at that moment that MAN-kind could be pulled back from being the latte drinking, skinny jean wearing, mama's boys that text each other about which flavored water is trending. This knife is that powerful. If Chuck Norris ever shaves his beard this is the knife he'll use. Would I recommend this knife to my friends? No. None of them could handle it. Should you buy one? My advice is that if you do when you open the box do NOT blink.

I grew up watching the Davy Crocket, Jim Bowie shows on TV, and I was always fascinated with the Bowie knife, and always wanted one. And now at 67 years old, I finally have one. I wouldn't settle for a low cost poor quality knife, and was not willing to pay the price for one that was of the high quality that I wanted. The timber rattler Bowie knife from BUDK is an incredible knife, both in quality and good looks, and even the heavy leather sheath is top quality. If you have been thinking of getting a Bowie knife, stop thinking and start buying, you simply can't do better than buying one from BUDK, I'm sure you will be just as happy as I was when I got mine.

Quality, affordability, the feel of a true Bowie. I had one similar as a kid a Case XX Collector Series but was stolen years later. This one beats it hands down. The only draw back is I had to wait 40 years to get a better one. Thanks.

This bowie will not disappoint. It is exactly as advertised. The price is a bonus. Be aware though, it is heavy. Like everyone else I dislike the sheath, will eventually make my own. Also could be sharper but that's a minor issue. Over-all very satisfied.

First , I was impressed by the weight of the package when delivered . I opened the box finally and had my hands on a real Bowie Knife . Still think'n it was heavy I put my index finger in the indent just below the blade , wow , that evened the weight out perfectly . In short , it's huge , it's sharp and I couldn't be more pleased , buy one , for yourself or a friend .

I purchased this Bowie at the request of a friend that had been looking for a good Bowie for some time but he was not willing to shell out big bucks for a brand name knife. He was ecstatic at the knifes quality and could not believe it was such a solid well built Bowie for the price. He had looked at many Bowie's and his words were .This knife by far outshines almost all the other Bowie's he had looked at and at less then a quarter of the price. He showed this Bowie to his friends and now he wants me to order three more. This Bowie's solid full tang construction will make it a must have for anybody who is building a bug out bag. It will be a blessing to have a blade that you can actually chop & split wood with that will hold up to a pounding.. The sheath is adequate for show but if you are going to use it as a work horse blade. I would recommend wrapping it with some heavy duty camo-duct tape. All in all It's a Great Bowie and I plan on buying many more for my friends and for members of my family. Great Job BUDK Another Awesome Item Of Many Great Items!

Great Buy! I have made knifes for fifty seven years. I needed a work horse chopper..this is it. It has 3-4 minor flaws, but overall it is a great buy. I can hardly afford materials to build a custom any more..and the fifty hours INTENSIVE labor ..PLUS materials!!..are you kidding!! Go spend your $28.00. Knife making is HARD>>HOT>>DIRTY WORK!! This is my first buy from budk, and is truly a great knife to say the least.my friends were very impressed with the size and durability. For the price you can't get much better than this. Though there were a few scratches throughout the blade and handle but you can tell it's from shipping not manufacturing.

I just wanted a hug bowie i could work on polishing and putting on display....what i got was a ready to display bowie that appears to be a working knife too. So happy i cem right to bud k directly and ordered several bowies to see what other surprise values are here...i wasn't disappointed and will review them all.

Man o Man, this is one BIG knife! I thought I was prepared for the size but once I got it in my hand only then did I realize the heft of this monster. It is well made with a few flaws to the handle, but the blade is top notch. It needs to be sharpened, but hey what knife does not need to be touched up. One difference I did notice is that instead of engraving the name of the knife and country of manufacture, mine is inked on. Which means eventually it will wear off. Just cosmetic, but a difference all the same. Also the snap is plain brass. Overall, I like this knife and would recommend it to anyone who wants a solid hunk of steel in their hand. And at $20 it was a steal. Thanks BUDK. My next blade purchase will definitely come from you.

There are those that say you can't get much anymore.to them I'd say leave the USA and try to find a knife like this.does it rust? OF COURSE IT DOES Morons. All metal deteriorates when not properly maintained.I underestimated the ad when it said how big it was. When I first held in my hand my heart skipped a beat.I don't have plans on displaying this knife but have no intentions on possibly losing it in the woods either. Thanks BUDK.you have made the public at large very happy with this knife.I am planning to give my friends one of these for special occasions.to say "I'm a happy camper would be an understatement.

Wow i knew the knife was big but I didn't dream it was as big as it is. If you have to pull this knife out i am willing to bet the other person will soil there self and run at the sight of it. What a monster and it came out of the box sharp enough to shave hair. I am really impressed with this knife it will be a great addition to my bug out bag. There will be a review on this knife and the service i got with BudK on youtube in next few days. Look for on TwoWolves Prepping. Thank you so much Bud K

While this is not a show quality knife, it is good looking, great feeling and has taken hours of abuse. The sheath is sturdy, I have had no problem wearing it on my side and pulling the blade. This thing is razor sharp after taking down several small trees and clearing all kinds of brush, vines and wood. For the money, you can't go wrong.

I just received my timber rattler western outlaw Bowie knife today in the mail, and i just have to say that this was the best buy i have ever made on budk. the blade is as massive as it looks and is way bigger and heavier than i imagined. the blade itself was sharp right out of the box, and the tip actually punctured the box it came in because the little plastic cap fell off during shipping. the only downside is it was made in Pakistan, but that is still better than china. the leather sheath was even of an amazing quality for the knife. well done, budk!

Very sharp out of box, sliced up a sheet of paper like my buck knife. 1/4 thick blade with no defects, nice wood handle and good quality brass. This knife is awesome!! Very well made, with a heavy duty blade. You could cut down trees with this tool. One thing that is important to me when purchasing a knife is the sheath. The Western Outlaw Bowie knife came through on this as well with a well made heavy leather sheath. The first one I ordered I gave to a good friend. Then I ordered another. I will probably get more to give away for Christmas, or Birthday gifts. It's that impressive! And you can't beat Bud-K's price!!

This is the second one I bought from Bud K, just because I liked this Bowie knife so well. I will never use it because the first one will last me three lifetimes. The Bowie is truly made for the Jolly Green Giant, it is heavy, huge, and the blade is a 1/4 in thick with a full tang that would take a tank to destroy. The handle is beautiful and this knife was sharp out of the box. Tarzan could kill an elephant with it but might find it difficult swinging from vine to vine as it is a heavy knife and made for heavy duty work. The sheath will suffice but not quite the quality it should have been for this size/weight of knife. I had to have two of them, one to use and the other just to hold in my hand and admire. I rate it ten stars but they only gave me five stars to click on. High quality - the best I have ever seen from Pakistan or anywhere for the money - buy it!

I have always been fascinated by bowie knives. I purchased one from Bass Pro thinking it was pretty cool. I wish I would have found the timber rattler first. It was $10 less and so much more of a knife. What an amazing value. It is beautiful and solid and holds a great edge. I have shown it off to several people and they were all impressed. I highly recommend it as well as BUDK.com.

Nice knife... Thoughts... * The tip of the sheath should have a lanyard which would secure the bottom of the sheath to the leg and stop the swing of the knife while walking. But this is a small modification... * I'd like to know more about the "Surgical Stainless Steel"... Is it 420? Is it 440? Is it AUS? * It's made in Pakistan, which isn't necessarily a bad thing -- the craftsmanship is quite good... * I've never used it, so I can't speak to its edge-holding ability, etc., but I've sold a number of them with no complaints... * It makes for a great "mantle knife" or "man cave knife"... * I try to buy when BudK has specials like $.01 shipping... I have no problem doubling my money when selling them... * I like the full tang construction... * All told, IMHO, a solid value if for no other reason that it would be at home in a bug-out bag... But in many states, don't wear it into town, or keep it in the car! Best...

Wow! what a buy for only $20. This is not the most expensive knife bought from Budk, but it is the best value. For those who may think the wood handle is simulated, the small knot in mine proves otherwise. blade came razor sharp, brass of cross guard and pommel is high quality. Not sure what all the fuzz is about the sheath. Leather seems thick, good grade belt leather. Stitching is thick and strong. Rivets for the belt loop and snap seem pretty strong as well. Noticed the snap doesn't have a star emblem on it people referred to in past reviews, its simply plain, so I'm thinking Timber Rattler probably took some of the earlier criticisms of the sheath to heart and made production changes. Pay nothing or a penny in one of budk's shipping specials, and that is simply icing on an already tasty cake.

This is REALLY nice knife! Heavy and well built. Even the sheath is pretty good. Everyone I show this bad a$$ knife to can't believe what I paid for it and they want one. I tell them check out BUDK for the best knives at the best prices. This one is a keeper for sure. Buy it and see. You'll be glad you did like I am. So many of the larger bowie style knives are cheaply made but, not this one. It is the real deal.

A great knife for under $20.00 , full tang construction and a full 1/4" thick, finish was very good and fairly sharp. When I saw that if you ordered 2 more the price was $18.00 I immediately ordered 2 more. Used it to clear some storm damaged trees before chain sawing them ... Sure this will last many years.

Well, Bud K just possibly lost a long time customer with this huge Jolly Green Giant Bowie. After getting this knife in the mail, looking at how strong, solid, and gorgeous this knife is, I will never need to purchase another knife because this one will last three lifetimes! This knife is built like a tank, heavy and the blade is sharp, 1/4 inch thick, shiny, with a full tang and the quality far surpasses the price. The grip was beautifully crafted and the brass pommel is held tight with brass pins, no wiggle or play anywhere on the handle and the grips are tight and simply beautiful. I bought the Bud K TR 85 and thought it was the best Bowie made for the money and it is except this Bowie is its daddy! It will take a pack horse to carry it around in the woods all day - lol. This knife is about the same length as the TR 85 but has a thicker and wider blade. The sheath is so-so, could be stronger, but I will have a stronger sheath made for it. Trust me, this Bowie knife will end your craving for any more Bowie knives because for the price nobody will top this one. BUY IT before Bud K gets wise and triples the price on it. Just holding it Daniel Boone and Jim Bowie comes to mind, true! Happy trails.

the timber rattler outlaw and the ranch king bowie knives are great got mine in 3 days after ordering they held up great they arrived in excelant condition razor sharp i have choped 8 inch popular dry wood and batoned it and carved 9 to 10 fier boards with them both the sheaths are not the best but there not as bad as some would have you to belive i will be ordering a few more timber rattler bowies in the future im a hard core hunter and fisher and these knives will do the job easy to sharpen with a stone and hold a good edge for a long while and they have the lenght to chop the heads of snakes or snaping turttels all in all i would use them in a survival situation they are stainless and wont spark but i can live with that they would be great for makeing a shelter and the end of the blade would on either knive is great for skining you just have to get use to a realy big knive and the extra weight and you cant beat the price and the sirvice was great the people i talked to at budk took care of the mistakes i made when ordering with no problems im realy pleased with my knives highley recamend them for hunting fishing or survival even cutting tomatoe stakes or bean poles will make short work of any job you need a cutting tool for get one.

Heavy knife, thick blade, almost 1/4" thick and sharp. The quality is good but don't expect perfection at this price, knife is sturdy, good fitting parts, the blade and brass could use a bit more finish-work but over all the knife and sheath are great. I've been collecting knives for 30+ years and this knife is one of the best, budget bowies, Pakistan made knife's I've owned or even seen. Great for the beginer knife collector on a budget or anyone who enjoys collecting knives, it looks good and feels great, I really like it.

I never cared much for those big, massive type knives before. I bought the Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie Knife because it looked good, thick heavy blade, heavy duty leather shieth, and sharp enough right out of the box to shave the hair off of my arm. Did I mention the price? That was the main selling point to me. At the BUD K price even if it turned out to be a dud you would'nt be out much. Great Knife.

I own several Timber Rattlers and have not been dissapointed by any of them, however this one is the biggest and baddest of all I own. Came sharp out of the box, and is amazingly large and heavy (weight, as well as, well built, heavy). It takes lots of abuse with no damage and stays sharp. I liked it so much I bought a second one. If you don't mind a heavy knife, this one is for you. well worth the asking price! Thanks Budk

This Bowie is one of the best I have EVER seen!!! I LOVE this knife! 1/4" thick full tang blade? Yeah, you definitely can't go wrong there! This Bowie is beastly though, for sure... I previously bought a Winchester Bowie knife at Walmart for the exact same price (actually I used a code and got the one above discounted) and the Winchester knife is smaller, poorer quality steel, can't determine if it's full tang or not and it comes with one of those crappy nylon sheaths with the hard plastic insert... This knife is larceny! I still feel like I owe BudK money! But I don't... So stay away, BudK...

At first I bought 3....one for myself and the others for a couple of my buddies. I was so impressed with the workmanship, balance, and quality of the blade that I have ordered 7 more. I will order more as they are going to make great Christmas Gifts. BudK has done it again and brought us an unbelievable bargin on a quality piece.

First off one word... WOW! This Outlaw Bowie is amazing! It comes sharp, shaving sharp, right out of the box. The raw size of this knife takes you back to the wild west or a Hollywood film. I have ordered many knives through u guys and this is my favorite yet. At this price it is an absolute steel of cold hard steel. Lol. All I can say to every1 debating whether or not to get this Bowie is Get It Now! U won't regret it. Thanks BudK

For less then $20, are you kidding me? You couldn't buy the steel in this knife for twice that. A wonderfully huge knife that you will absolutely love.

Great knife. Absolutely worth the price. It's much heavier than i expected, and much wider. The sheath is pretty nice, and the handle is nice detail. Few small smudges on the brass guard, but other than that a fantastic buy.

I've never held a knife this big in my hand before. Two words describe this knife, BIG and WOW! This is a lot of knife for the price. The many great reviews on this knife helped me decide that this was the one to purchase, thanks to all who took time to write one. Many complained about the leather sheath, but I am very impressed with it. I just bought my knife in September of 2012 so maybe they responded to the the older reviews with a better sheath. My advice, buy the knife!

This is a very impressive Bowie. It arrived very sharp right out of the box, with a good sheath. The only thing I do to any knife with a wooden handle is put 2 coats of Min Wax Polyurethane on tho bring out hte shine, and protect the wood. I also clean the knives with Goo Gone to remove the coat of protective spray the factory puts on the handle and the blade. Thanks again BuDK for another great knife, I'd recommend this knife to all collectors. I'm still waiting for the Timber Rattler EL Paso Bowie to become available!

Very nice knife, very sharp right out of the box. Best bowie knife ever. Has some weight to it. If u don't buy you will miss out on a great knife.
This Bowie is quickly becoming my go to knife. It is heavy enough to be used to clear brush with a large enough handle for a good grip no matter your hand size, the weight is balanced enough for throwing but the hand guard will snap if hit too hard, so far that is the only flaw with this knife. It does come sharp out of the box and even if it didn't it has the weight to cut through what ever you need it to.

First time with Budk, this knife is a 10++ if you want a knife to scare your self this is it, I don't know what to say but WOW, the price is the best,it's sharp, big, and looks like a $100.00 + knife, if you don't buy this knife your nuts. Thanks Budk

Wow, and wow, and wow. Best bowie I own. Large, weighty. and sharp! What more could you ask for in a knife? I also like the sheath. And I especially like the brass work on the hand guard and pommel. At the price, and out of all that is out there, this one is a must.

Solid knife for the price. Heavy enough to do the tasks you need it to do if you plan on using it. Has a substantial feel in the hand, which is great. Only thing I didn't like were the markings on the back of the blade.

Great heavy blade, feels like a short sword. Leather sheath need beefing up. Used nylon strapping from Wally world camping section, glued to front inside sheath around loop and down back of sheath with outdoor weatherproof contact cement also from Wally World. Used leather rivets around perimeter of sheath, helped a lot. Can't go wrong with price at less than $18.00.

This knife is just huge! For the money it is worth it. Can put this knife to some good outdoor use! The only problem I have with it is the sheath but that can always be fixed.
AMAZING! This knife is a monster. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's enormous. It also came very sharp. I cut a pumpkin to shreds with almost no effort, it's so heavy you can basically drop it and it cuts right through. Fantastic buy, get it. ENORMOUS! More sword than knife.

I've had this knife for three years and it has never let me down. I'm a knife maker and love it, and this is a very good quality knife. I could easily make the same knife and sell it for maybe a couple hundred off of it. An extremely good buy! I did have to make a new sheath for it after the loop on it ripped off, but after that, it'll last forever.

Best knife i own. I use it from cutting meat to butchering and processing on the farm. I even throw it in my spare time. H*** of a knife for $20. Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. We have removed a portion of the review which does not comply with our review guidelines.
This is an amazing knife. The picture on the website does NOT give this knife justice, this is a huge knife. And for the people who say the sheath is just a piece of crap, it's not. But it's also not the best. Lets keep in mind that the sheath is an accessory to the knife. I give the KNIFE a 5 and the sheath a 3.

This bowie is amazing! From the moment picked this monster up I fell in love with it. The handle is a dark grey wood with the brass bolsters accenting it. All in all my only regret is that I didn't get this sooner. 5 out of 5. Great job Bud K, you hit another one out of the park.

I can't say Anything negative about this knife. It is nearly perfect. It has a great weight, a great grip, and a beautiful design. It has a decent edge on it, but I consider this a plus because you can put your own edge on it. Also the sergical steel is a huge bonus, and along with the thickness this knife can take some serious damage. If you are a collector, hunter, or a survial person this is the perfect blade for you. Also considering the price there is no way you can find a better deal on such a high quality knife.

Its a whole lot of knife... just opening the box made me realize what i was really dealing with... very very sturdy construction. This is a massive, durable, heavy duty, hard use, outdoor tool. I chopped thru 10"thick downed lodge pole pine for firewood. Dug some holes. Cleared manzanita brush (very hard wood). After all this the edge needed some touching up but was in surprisingly good condition. I've wrecked expensive name brand blades on the first outing.

Buddy has a ton of great buys here; it's the reason Bud-K is in business. But no other knife on earth comes close to the Outlaw Bowie. For 19 bucks, this is a steal of a deal, for real. Nothing this good, this cheap, can last for long. If you want a big, bad, mega-macho knife that never needs sharpening, cuts through trees like butter and just feels good in your hand, this is the knife to buy. If you get nothing else from Bud, you gotta get this one. Easily worth all 5 stars and then some.

This is a great knife and one of the best I have ever owned for the price. By the way the handle is made, makes it uncomfortable to swing at harder stuff, but it starts up an interesting conversation, especially when you show it to your friends. I have had it for almost a year, has not dulled and still going.

If your looking for a "big" bowie knife, you've found it. This thing is huge! Although the price is cheap, the knife ain't. It's well built and has a nice, sharp edge. I wouldn't recommend it for small hands or weak wrists. This bowie is big and heavy. In my back yard, I used it to slice through some tree limbs and didn't even break a sweat. It'll get the job done. The sheath is this products only weak spot. If your too rough with it, you'll probably wind up looking for another one or having to make your own. However, I'm giving this knife five stars because this blade simply blew my mind. If your looking for a "big" bowie to use around the house or in the woods, you might as well go ahead and get this one.

Well done Timber. A heavy blade with full tang construction, hard wood handle with brass fittings. This hunk of steel is worth so much more than what you would pay for it. If I were put in the jungle I would want this blade with me. Even the scabbard is premo. A worthwhile investment. Thanks

Hefty! The fit and finish of this knife far exceeded my expectations. The blade geometry is well done, the fittings are solid with no hint of rattle, and the handle fits my hands well. The weight forward balance is perfect for what the knife is intended for, clearing brush, chopping limbs and butchering game. And, to top it all off, it came fairly sharp right out of the box. The sheath isn't great, but I usually make my own anyway, so it doesn't matter. This would still be an excellent knife at two to three times the price!

I looked for a traditional looking Bowie for some time and I received it today. All the reviews cannot convey the impression that this knife gives you in person. Well built to chop trees. This the second of two bowie knives I purchased from the Timber Rattler Series. As with the first, I am again extremely pleased with this knife. I will give this knife also only 5 stars because there isn't a 6 star rating. As with the other TR knife, the sheath, while good quality, could be improved upon by making the belt loop as wide as the sheath body and perhaps stitching it instead of riveting it. Overall, this knife appears to be excellent quality for the purchase price, heavy duty, full tang, fit and finish, etc. I would recommend it to anyone considering purchasing a large bowie knife.

I just bought several knives, and this one has to be the best of the lot! It's big and heavy enough to qualify as a short sword. Still, it's not one I'd buy simply to prove I had the biggest bowie. It really does seem like a quality blade. The handle is well put together, tight, and with a smooth finish. Even the sheath is nicely decorated, well-fitted, and seemingly sturdy, which is very unusual for knives in this price range. As I write this review, there's one for sale on eBay for $42, so this is definitely a steal at BudK!

This is a great value. Upon delivery this blade was moderately sharp, hefty, solid, and appears ready to accept heavy use. Also, it came with a very good sheath. I gave this blade four stars because of some minor cosmetic irritations. For instance, the guard was pitted and rusted in small areas, bonding glue was present in several places around the guard and end of handles around the tang. Otherwise, buy it, sharpen it and you will have a keeper ... I am because I really like this blade

When I received the knife it had a rather dull edge right out of the box so I took it to a knife smith to have it professionally sharpened. Once he put an outstanding edge on it he said it was made out of very good steel as he had very little sparks come off while sharpening that blade. Great knife!!

I recently got into black powder guns and thought the Timber Rattler Western Outlaw would be a fun addition to the hobby and it would be cool to have camping. I dont believe in abusing knives but I am actually looking forward to trying to baton some wood with the Outlaw. Overall I like the knife. The knife seems to be pretty well made for a high production knife and like other reviews it arrived so dull that my butter knives in the kitchen are sharper. I had to take a a file to shape it so that I could use my knife sharpening stones to give it an edge. The problem with the file is that I scratched the crap out of the blade. BudK really needs to get on their distributors case about this so the manufacturer will give the knife an extra minute and put an edge on it. I have read in the reviews some complaints about the sheath. I think those people may just be complainers. For a $20.00 knife with free shipping the sheath is pretty good quality. The leather is fairly thick and there is some kind of closed cell foam sandwiched between the leather which is a good thing because it will prevent the knife from poking a hole in the leather at the bottom. My opinion is that the sheath will last many years unless it is abused and put away wet, LOL. Personally I am going to try to saturate it with Snow-Seal a beeswax blend to waterproof and condition the leather. Would I buy it again? Yes I would.

I keep various knives at strategic locations around the house and inspect each every few weeks. I was surprised to find rust on the "stainless" blade this morning. One spot was actually pitted just a bit. It needed a slight touchup with steel wool and oil, but is fine now. Since this is an "indoor" knife, I didn't take the time to oil the excellent leather sheath. Mink oil or mineral oil on (and in!) the sheath would have prevented the problem -- and now will in the future. Unlike some other reviewers, my knife arrived sharpened.

I've been looking to buy this knife for quite awhile and finally decided to get one. Overall , I'm satisified with the knife and it is worth the price paid. But , as others have mentioned , the knife arrived dull. I don't mind the dull edge, but the grinds were so uneven from one side to the other, that I had to carefully reprofile one side and leave the other as is. So I took off a star. There is a bright side to this. As I was sharpening the knife I realized the steel is pretty hard. I was epexting low quality stainless steel, but whatever steel is used to make this blade, it's really hard. Lastly, the sheath is very nice and it is real leather. If you don't mind doing some sharpening work into the blade, you''d be hard pressed to find a better knife at this price.

The knife is nice, but mine came completely unsharpen. The edge is so thick that it will require being run through the grinder first before sharpening it, usually, BUDK knives aren't very sharp, but this one is a joke. Other than that it has a nice finish and balance. Seems to be a good knife and a great piece of conversation. The sheath is nothing fancy it does its job but if you are going to carry this get a new one done.

I love this knife. It is more like an ax, just a big hunk of stainless steel. It is not very sharp, could maybe have a slightly bigger fuller, and the steel is probly not optimal. But its solidly made, the sheath is great and at $20 you wont be afraid to knock it around!

This bowie knife is more like an all purpose camp tool. You can use the pommel like a hammer and the blade like a machete. The one I got has a blade that is slightly misaligned with the the rest of the hilt. It is not very noticeable though.

Now for what it is it's awesome, I put it through some tests and it passed! This thing is huge I chopped firewood, small trees, and some larger limbs. For the price you cant beat this, its actually kinda hard to find large bowies, especially good ones but this one blew my mind! only problem is that the finish on the guard was rough but it aint a show piece, an it didnt come too sharp but it was pretty easy to hone in the edge. All in all great knife and cant beat this price!

Love the size of this knife. The handle was a bit wide. After sanding it feels amazing in hand. This is offered at such a low price because metal is not the best. And the parts are brass "plated" I wish they offered a HC with real brass parts. I would spend 100$

i got this as a utilitarian knife. it has a few small cosmetic flaws but nothing major. it doesn't come razor sharp - which is why i took off a star. but that's not a problem i've got my trusty whet stone. i'm used to handling swords so the weight didn't bother me. it's got a good grip on the handle. this is something you'll want to carry around with you on a camping trip and chop kindling with. yes, the sheath isn't that great but i'm not going to be able to use it anyway since it's a right handed sheath and have to buy a left handed one. i'm pleased with my purchase. thanks, BudK!

First off I would like to say that this knife is amazing. It's huge and sturdy but very cheap. I show people this and they think i must have paid hundrends for the quality and size. 20$ is a steal for this knife. But then one day a strange thing happened, I had some barbed wire I needed cut fast and I only had this knife. Since it has a bevel grind I thought it was strong enough to retain an edge. It cut through the wire fine but it chewed up the blade and the edge seems to have some kind of white powderish substance in it. I have no idea what this may be but it was a strange experience but I still love this knife!

I wanted something like a knife, blade, and a short sword that means business. This knife is not as heavy as many portray it out to be nor as huge. Very solid in all respects but aesthetically is imperfect with parts of the brass guard and pins tarnished/pitted/dented but it isn't really noticeable unless you're really examining it. Doesn't bother me at all because I want functionality over anything. When you're defending yourself who cares what the knife looks like. I have no intention of slamming it into trees. I did need a cool pizza cutter and looks like it would work quite well for that. Blade is not really sharp. Needs some touching up. I'm not rich and can afford a gun so this is my version of self-defense, plus I live in Tucson and like going for walks late at night (illegals, muggings) and wanted an intimidating blade and this is very intimidating. I also like having weapons to test girlfriends emotional baggageometer. Do they feel safe with their man armed or fearful freaking out? Interesting how having a knife in your hand and not even using it can serve multiple purposes. The sheath seems to have been improved upon as the belt loop is sown on vs. rivited. It does seem a bit cheap and vvery stiff. And lastly, I needed a pizza cutter and something to open coconuts, slice water mellon and cantaloupe. I love the blade. I'm not disappointed at all. For $20 it's a real deal. Perfectionist knife collectors will have a tantrum for sure due to the fact that it's not a perfect looking blade (who cares). Four stars because this

Purchased this for my step dad who owns a lot of knives, but never one like this! Massive, attention getting and well constructed. The scales are tight and well done, guards smooth and polished well. I would have given this 5 stars if the sheath was a little better, but at least it was real leather. This is THE knife if your hunting bear! For the price- It gets my approval!

I really like this bowe knife. The only thing the worries me about it, is that when I pulled it from its sheath; it had started rusting. I cleaned it off and wiped it down with WD-40. It looks like that stopped it from corroding any further but, have left it out of the sheath. May try putting it back in the sheath to see what happens.

I am amazed at the size of the knife! The only this that I did not like is that on my knife there are dents where the brass buttons are and it makes the knife look pre owned. This was the first thing I purchased from BUDK and won't be my last

Damn this thing is just so sexy! It is definitely bigger and heavier than it looks! This just put my other bowie knife to shame. a little dirt an a very small scratch but i feel that gives the blade character. Certainly going to buy from true swwords more often.

This is my second Western Outlaw. The first one i had to replace the sheath after my second hike and the blade has trouble keeping sharp. I received the second one the other day and its great. Better sheath and blade. Also the handle is a little different. Glad i have two now. Can't get a better knife for the price. Thanks Bud k
When I got this knife in the mail I was very, very happy. It had good weight and length. The blade was sharp and I could cut a 4 in thick tree down in 5 hits. The down side when I got this was it had 2 dings on it and it had a very funky smell to it. Overall great buy! I give this 4 stars for sure.

I was and am very pleased with the knife. I would have rated it higher except for the cheap leather sheath that it came in. It's a great knife that feels good in the hand, now all it needs is a quality leather sheath.

This knife is amazing for the price. Its the right weight, full tang and awesome blade. Although, the handle and hand gaurd seemed to be a bit scratched up and dented. The knife also had an uneven sharpening, but that can be fixed. Overall it can get tasks done and is worth the price.

First off, this thing is HUGE!!! I knew it would be large from the picture..but WHOA! The blade however does have some minor imperfections on it which I can easily fix. The sheath, is fitting too tightly on it and I will have to work with that to make it fit better.

Great knife solid cut a few tress down with it out camping for wood. Only thing I can say bad about it is the hand guard isn't sealed in place its only resting there between the knife and the handle, but great knife.

Weight in sheath = 2.1 lbs, balance point is right below the sharpened area of the blade. 7 mm blade thickness (just under 1/4"). Feels good but VERY big and heavy. Fit and finish fairly poor (as expected) but it's gonna be a wonderful beater knife at camp. Sheath will be OK for now, but does draw with difficulty (durability unknown). Good sharp edge. Handle guard & pommel provide secure group but I'll probably drill a lanyard hole for safety. Feels OK in my gloved hand, too. NO COMPLAINTS HERE. This is only one of my big knives, so it may not get a ton of use... but when it does I'm sure I'll like it.

I bought this large knife over others like it because of the many positive owner reviews. Turned out to be a wise choice. I split a large pile of kindling within fairly short time. Used the batoning technique as viewed on youtube. This is a sturdy knife that will amaze each new owner! My advise: Do not assume this bowie knife is inferior because of the low price. Truthfully, it is worth more than double the price! Thank you BUDK!

great knife but the sheath seemed like it was made out of fake or cheap leather....it was also ripped where the blade enters the sheath...other than that great purchase! especially for the price!

This is a top notch knife and well worth the money. The blade and feel is very good. It is well made and good feel to it in your hand. However, the Sheath SUCKS big time I bought two knives and the SHEATH broke the very first time. I have a problem because with a blade this big you need A SHEATH to hold it, and it is not easy to find another that would fit it. That is a shame because the knife is TOP OF THE LINE.

Good solid bowie for the price. Workmanship is a little crude but still looks menesing. Sharp right out of the box for a bowie with a low cost.I guess if I wanted a bowie that had excellent workmanship I should have bought one costing alot more but for the money this bowie will do, it's well worth the money. Will be buying alot more from BudK. Love your merchandise.

This is a great knife for the price. I bought two of them and will be back for two more, for Christmas presents. Good quality here, as you would expect from both BudK and Timber Rattler. This bowie is something to behold and handle. I love sharp knives, right out of the box and this one is sharp, both in blade and looks. It has a mans handle on it. Many knives currently produced are made with small grips and I have a big hand, even Crocidile Dundee would approve of this one. I love it and two more are going to be on order, on this visit to the site. Thanks Budk, for another winner.

I just got this in the mail today and all i could say is wow. First, it was a lot bigger and weighted a lot more than i thought. It was sharp right out of the box, but i made it a little sharper :) It looks well made, only problem with this, is i don't like the feel of the handle. But other than that very good knife. Defiantly recommended

The knife is cool, great collectors piece. I like everything about it except the blade is stainless steel, and the handle isn't what you would think of a wooden handle. all in all its fun to have and show off.

I'll first start with the the blade seems great but needs a good sharpening. The price point is really good for this heavy hitter and looks great at first. The fit and finish on the guard and handle should look better than it does. It feels good in the hand and all the blemishes shouldn't effect the proformance. The sheath looks good but the strap is too short to secure the knife.

This by no means as a knife you want for any real life use. The main thing about this knife is that it is cheap and fun. I love to play with this monster.

This is a big heavy blade and fairly well made knife. Mine arrived sharp with an even edge except around the point. The sheath is leather and foam and well made, but the stain is a bit uneven (no biggie). My only negatives are the first inch of the blade is dull and the sloppy finishing tooling. Neither of which are a big deal. I bought this blade to use it and use it I will. Great buy!

minus 1 star for broken tip and one for the fact it couldn't cut hot butter I didn't expect a razor but at least a working edge. it re-profiled and sharpened fairly easy. other than that its a big knife which is what I was expecting.

Received my Timber Rattler just last week in a very timely manner as per usual & it's quite the hunting/defensive knife! Had a couple of pits and it's not the best steel but it certainly ain't the worst by far (Whatta ya expect from Pakistan) however I'm so far well satisfied that this thing will hack through hog or deer joints as well as most timber if needed..........."Thanx Lisa & Budk"!!!

This would be a decent knife if it hadn't rusted so badly. I've used polishing compound on it real fine steel wool and have even stuffed moisture desiccant down into the sheath. The blade is pitted now. the wooden handle has a chip out of it. You see all the hype about the stainless steel blade and the fancy numbers indicating what kind of stainless it is so you expect it to be GOOD stuff. Well the old adage holds true in this case" you get what you pay for". Haven't used it in any real camping or hunting scenario, so I don't know how it will hold up under those conditions. We'll see.

Ordered 2 of these, one for a friend. Knife comes about as sharp as a butter knife and requires several hours of work to get it moderately sharp, for $20 it's a full tang bowie so you can't complain too much.

I have purchased seven Timber Rattled knives, all but this one were razor sharp as advertised. It had several imperfections in the wood and does not properly fit in the sheath, its to wide. It is a true monster, the blade is super thick and strong. Overall I'm pleased, but it needs a sheath made to fit it.

It looks like a wonderful knife. My neighbor got one a week ago, so I can say it's an amazing deal and an amazing knife. But they really need to put an Out Of Stock sign on this page. Mine's been on "backorder" for a good month now, with more waiting in the future. All-in-all, a knife you should get. Just not at the moment, since they didn't mention it's out of stock.

Greatly constructed but it came dirty and with many knicks, some on the blade. Great knife, just in not-so-well condition when you open it. The sheath is also hard to put on because you have to stretch the buckle pretty far.

I was a little apprehensive when I found out these were on back order. For a field knife this will do, but, the workmanship is sub-par. Made in Pakistan with a back order that'll probably be a good part of their GNP, this knife was made very slip shod. Scale handle holes mis-drilled and filled with putty. It looks like it was made with a hacksaw, file and disc sander. They were probably under a lot of pressure to get these out. The sheath is naugahide, not leather. As I said, if you're going to use this in the field fine, it's already beat-up a bit. If you're thinking about a display knife, you'll need a machine shop and have to rework the blade and the furniture. Heck, it was only twenty bucks, I'd have given up another $20 just to have had some TLC put into it's construction.

It's big. That's the only positive thing I can say about it. To say that this is a dull as a butter knife, would be an insult to butter knives. Blade steel is such garbage, that even after several hours of sharpening, using everything from a traditional two sided stone, guided diamond sharpener, and and electric sharpener, it won't take anything remotely resembling an edge. I've tried cutting a variety of materials, and it literally wouldn't cut anything. The sheath is constructed of thing dry leather that was falling apart right out of the box. It's only possible use would be as a wall hanger/ novelty item due to size, but as a functional knife, it's utterly useless.
