Product Description
The Shinwa SilkSting Shirasaya Sword is a unique testament to the elegance of traditional Japanese craftsmanship combined with modern aesthetics. This sword features a full-tang 29” black Damascus steel blade, hand-forged with centuries-old techniques that showcase mesmerizing patterns of waves and swirls in a deep, shadowy hue. The seamless design extends from the kashira to the saya base, embodying a minimalist, sleek profile that is as striking as it is functional. The smooth, hand-lacquered hardwood handle and saya complete the refined look, making this piece an eye-catching addition to any collection.
Unlike overly adorned swords, the SilkSting Shirasaya embraces simplicity with its understated elegance. The glossy black finish of the handle and scabbard harmonizes perfectly with the dark allure of the blade, presenting a sword that stands out for its clean lines and sophisticated craftsmanship. This sword is designed for those who appreciate subtle beauty and quality without the need for excessive embellishments.
I've swung this sword rediculously hard through the air at least 50 times to test how well it's attached to the handle. It doesnt budge. It's well put together. The blade is sufficiently sharp for backyard cutting. This sword serves a gook hiking companion

shirasaya
I GOT THIS SWORD FINALLY, IT HAS A COOL BOX TO STORE IT.THE BLADE IS QUITE SHARP, AND FEELS STURDY. I DID THE BEND TEST AND THINK (MAYBE) IT IS FULL TANG BUT BAD DESIGN. OVERALL ITS WORTH THE PRICE, AND U CAN WRAP A FABRIC FOR RIFLES AT ANOTHER COMPANY. IM HAPPY WITH IT.

Pretty Cool
I bought this sword and I think its pretty cool, the handle could be a little more grippy or maybe that's just my sweaty hands, but its a nice blade overall

my opinion
any sword should feel somewhat heavy because the weight of it is required to cut through things easier , kind've like an axe with the weighted axe head to minimise resistance. Dont worry, their full tane for you amateurs,if it didnt then this sword wouldnt have been handcrafted, or even made as its purpose is to be battle ready, but also for display. Not one or the other, both

Ignore the rest of these reviews!
This sword is great. I have no idea what everyone is talking about. Yeah sure there is a little extra weight on the blade, but that makes it easier to swing right? You can use this sword for display or for combat. Great sharp blade, I recommend this to anyone and everyone.

all my yes
this was my first buy from BUDK and i love it! of all my swords, this is by far my favorite. comes fairly sharp, but simple to sharpen further with a little time and effort. this hooked my friend on BUDK too, and i have made nothing but satisfied purchases from them.

nice sword
i am impressed with the craftsmanship of this sword. the wavy damascus pattern is excellent. i got this sword as a gift for my son and i know he will love it. the only drawback that i have noticed is that the sword is not razor sharp as it is advertised. it is sharp but i would have liked to have been able to shave with it. it won't take a lot of work to get it to shave but i will leave that to my son. all in all it is a great sword and well worth the price. thank you, budk, and keep up the good work.

awesome
This sword is awesome. contrary to what the description hints, it is only sharp on one edge. this is great because it makes swinging it feel more natural. It is clearly full tang and the Damascus pattern is beautiful. it comes with a good edge and I am 100% satisfied. thank's go to Shinwa and BudK

Good for the price.
Definitely a good piece for the price. But if you think this is basically the epitome of quality swords, you have a lot to learn. This is barely even in the price range of a functional sword. My only other Shirasaya is by hanwei, and costs $600. Now let me tell you that if those two swords crossed, after a few strikes were exchanged the Shinwa would fail miserably. It's just not that high quality. However, I know most people buying this aren't incredibly serious sword collectors and this is definitely good enough to chop fruit in your backyard or swing through the air with.

Great piece
It looks very pretty sitting on display. I show off the blade every now and then but the handle feels weak. It is not full tang. That is the only downside though to a cool blade.

Shinwa Black Nodachi Ninja Damascus Steel Sword
Pretty nice piece. Excellent decoration piece. Will never know if it's combat ready because I'd hate to ding it up. P.S. try diamond stone sharpener - makes for a smooth edge.

needs work
I have received my big sword was very impressed with it as my played with it a while and started polishing the blade notice as I was putting a light coat of oil on the blade my rag I could feel the burrs catch on the rag and if you look long enough at the blade you can see all the burrs , their are a lot of them, now my issue is how do I deal with them. Tried the white ceramic v finisher does not handle burrs very well ,going to try my leather belt to see if that helps.

I like it.
This is a decent low cost addition to my collection. I definitely recommend BudK.

Pretty sword. It is long and straight, full tang with a hard wood handle glued onto the tang. It can not be used as a cane which dissappointed me because it is marketed as a cane sword. It is simply a straight shirasaya.

My order was delivered much sooner than I expected! This sword is very sharp and seems to be made of good quality materials. I definitedly recommend this sword for collectors or practioners of the martial arts.

Came in 8 days.... Mainly my fault for ordering on a friday since once the weekend ended it moved fairly fast. When it arrived I just couldnt say anything but, WOW. It looks brilliant.... The blade itself of course needed a bit of cleaning as it came with some grease and oil on it... The only real downsides are that it wobbles a bit in the saya and its just a slight bit too high to be a cane for me. Other than that damn amazing! A great buy for the price!

Nice sharp blade but i don't think it is a full tang. When i tap on the handle it sounds like a tuning fork. I would be afrade to strike something with it out of fear the handle would break . There is no way to dismantle it to check if it is a full tang or not but i think NOT.

I ordered this sword last year and I have to say you get what you pay for. I've used mine for all sorts of things and whether it is real Damascus steel or not, its definitely a good starter sword and if you have any problems with your sword its most likely got screwed up in the mail because mine was in excellent condition. No loose pieces and no damage, although the box is a little cheap it has a nice look about it. I'd say 3.5 out of 5

hmm where to start. Slightly disappointed when it came in today. The blade doesn't stay in the saya firmly compared to the shirasaya that I bought here years ago and the blade itself had some markings on it with some built up oil gunk on the blade that I had to scrape off. I mean it looks nice, but just those little things make it a bit not worth it. Haven't tried the cutting yet, not sure if I'll find the time. well all in all hopefulyl whoever else bought this had better luck than I did.

SHIRASAYA
NICE PIECE BUT NOT FOR HEAVY BATTLE. IT IS BALANCED U JUST HAVE TO FIND THE RIGHT GRIP. I SUPER GLUED A STRIP OF LEATHER AT THE END OF THE HANDLE SO U CANT LET IT SLIP OUT OF YOUR HAND OR GET CUT. THE SCABBARD IS RATHER CHEAP AND MAKES THE CLOSING LOOSE, BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR I PAID $ 125.00. ITS STILL A GOO PRACTICE PIECE. THANKS. THE BLADEMASTER

We are very dissatisfied with this sword. I am not a collector, I study kenjitsu. The blade slaps around in the Saya badly. The blade itself is great with a very nice edge however the branding logo and name of the company on it AND the text on the other side of the blade make it look like a toy. So I gave it two stars due to the graffiti on the blade and the poorly fit Saya. It is not worth the money, Mushashi is far superior.

I recieved the shinwa nodachi sword I ordered today,(no thanks to ups), It was left leaning up against my neighbors porch.when I called customer service I was told it wasn't thier problem,to call ups. upon looking over the sword it rattled around in the scabbard, there were knicks in the blade and it wasn't very sharp.the customer service rep upon hearing a not to happy customer let out a heavy sigh and asked rather rudely if I wanted a return label to send it back. It will be the last time I buy a factory second from this company.
