I purchased one of these and it works well. Difficult to fill without spilling but works good. Seems as though it will last quite a while off a fill of lighter fluid. Good item for survival bag or camping.

I bought this for emergency bag Not daily use. Out the box my lighter lit after a few strikes. Sometimes it lights on first strike sometimes it takes a few strikes but always lights. Even outside. Havent refilled yet and had it about a month. I don't use it regularly i only test it every few days. So far i5 is a great buy for three dollars. Will be ordering more soon.

Great for camping, have used it often to start a campfire. Works great lights even in the wind.

Possibly the best thing I have bought from here. For me it works perfectly every time I need it. The only issue was that it wouldn't light for the first time until I lit the wick with a regular lighter. After that it worked perfectly. Even seems pretty resistant to wind. One other thing: Avoid using it to light a smoke because it'll end up tasting a bit like the lighter fluid.

First and most important after reading comments about wicks burning up. This Item needs Lighter Fluid without that you only have a fancy spark and without fluid wick will soon be gone. The comment about fluid getting all over you. Proper use is to place a thumb or finger over the hole to cover while striking sparking rod. Use Fluid, cover hole while striking this item will give years of service.. Dr Larry

Lighter is really cool. Hooks on your keyring and you never have to look for matches or rub two sticks together Or whatever. Great buy!

I just received mine in the mail today. It works perfectly. One strike = flame! I plan on buying one for all my family and friends.

Great little permanent match, although it is not stainless steel. It's plastic with a stainless steel (3 side) wrap. But it's perfect for an emergency fire starter. I keep mine with me hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, for emergencies. Great for the price.

Seems to work very well, mine lights on the 2 or 3rd strike. My only complaint is that the reservoir is plastic and the handle of the "match" is plastic that screws into the reservoir, not that big of deal. Definitely can't beat it for the price, i ordered 2 and i will be ordering more! I bought some cheap lighter fluid (2 bucks for 5 oz) and it works fine with it.

When I first ordered one of these, I was a little worried on quality because they are priced so cheap.....These things are Awesome! Almost every time I order I get a few of these to pass out as gifts to my friends. All of my friends are impressed with them and they are great for survival. Waterproof and pretty windproof as well. If you don't have one get one! I let one sit over a year with fluid in it and no leaks and lit right up like it's supposed too. You will want more after you get one trust me.

A friend recently introduced me to these fantastic little fire starters. Bought 4 of them to stash in various gear bags. Simple, effective and reliable. Wonderful compliment to a Zippo lighter.

I bought two of these, one for my survival kit and one for everyday use. Usually lights on the second strike. I plan on using the everyday one for my pipe or cigars. The one bad thing is one has to be careful when filling up with lighter fluid, as it fills up quick. The other bad thing is there's no source to get extra wicks. for the price, they're great.

bought this to kick the price of purchase over so I could get the free machete. Didn't expect to like it really, expected to give it a way. But I love this little thing so much. it probably wasn't very smart but I lit it for half a second without lighter fluid and it lit great, flame was huge. Very snazzy little match. My new favorite key chain toy.

Item exactly as described. Lighter works well. Light weight. Hold fluid well. I would recommend this product.

This is honestly one of the best ideas I've heard of. Great EDC (every day carry) item. I bought ten of them (even though one will last you a lifetime) and use them all the time. They are great gifts. It does not come with lighter fluid, but that is really inexpensive and can be found at your local smoke shop. Very impressed. It is a sure fire way to start a fire anywhere. Only complaint is that if you let the fire burn too long, the wick will start to burn, but surely in a survival situation that won't matter. Wick is about 2 inches long (using less than a centimeter for lighting) and easy to replace. Worth every penny.

Always generates a big spark, does sometimes takes several tries to light, but what a lifesaver for a couple of bucks. No bigger than a small pillbox, inexpensive enough to have several in all cars, and an absolute necessity for any basic survival/first aid kit. If ever you are stranded, you will either feel brilliant for having one or dim for not.

Practice to get it lit. I have the stick diagonal instead of horizontal when on striker and I press it firm then strike. Probably will aggravate those crazy chain smokers (then again what doesn't when something gets in the way of their cigarette)... but a conversation starter for a smoke circle. Awesome for the outdoors and random campfires, and 3 bucks is worth it to get 2. Looks like a flask key chain. smaller and thinner than a fun size nerds candy.

The Permanent Match Lighter is a Great Buy, The only one problem is that it is a little difficult getting it lit but other than that it is great and also it's a bit small but works perfect.

Light weight easy to use and seems to seal up well. A little light weight so take care not to crush it. Even if you did you could probably still use the flint, striker, and wick.

Got a couple some time back. Unique lighting method always impresses people. Just 1 drawback: plastic threads on cap are easy to cross-thread.

Light a piece of paper or lint to start a fire with fluid. also works as a striker with sparks directed into lint. surprisingly functional, more so than a lot of things!

I bought several of these to place in bug out kits. Made in China and looks like something you would get out of a vending machine. But, I was pleasantly suprized when I struck the flint built into the side. Lit up with a pretty respectable flame. Maybe not suited to constant use, but will do for emergencies. Very small with a big flame. Make sure it has fluid and it should serve it's purpose.

bought 3 of these on some sale like the other person said it literally lit 3 times than never again but they work great for fire starting since its jura flint so it works for my needs! maybe not everybody else's hahaha i find it very useful but its no match. if i wasn't going to live in the wilderness for the rest of my life i would rate it 1 or 2 stars

This lighter is awesome it lights up right away with one strike with no issues I would recommend this lighter for any one who likes to go camping and or for a survival kit will definitely come in handy when needed.

I really like this item, and think that the people who gave it low ervies might just not hve caught on to the technique needed to use it...it took me a bit of thought and practice to get it myself. Note that it won't necessarity work every time...this is more a survival tool than a "hey time to light my cigatette and look cool" item. But it will light in 2 or 3 strikes if you do the following: 1. Strike downward, away from the fluid reservoir (you don't want a stray spark falling in!) 2. Just as you finish your strike, flick your wrist upwards to bring the match to vertical -- this will bring the wick up INTO the spark and ignite it. If you don't do this, the spark will be trailing the wick and can't ignite the fluid. Using this approach, the match should light if not on the first strike, on the second or third. The flame is strong and very resistant to wind, making this item great as a fire starter and emergency light/heat source.

I have bought maybe 15 of them... my friends keep stealing them. Those remaining are in every vehicle I have, shooting gear, etc. I have no trouble lighting these but some may. 'Only' a 4 because it is small and the wick does wear quickly. Essential for emergencies - I love to light my cigars since the flame is so large and doesn't go out. Suggest you buy a few....

Got a couple of these for a BOGO sale. They give off a great spark, but when I doused the wick in lighter fluid it doesn't always want to light the wick. So if the wick fails to light, or you don't have fluid in it, you can use it as a flint and steel.

Bought three. Gave one to my boss. His slipped in his hand and splashed fluid, and lit at same time. His reaction was drop it. He was outside so he let it burn. Mine lit 2nd strike, and performance is great. I recommend for smokers and woods men. consider it a Camping friend.

I bought two and they were well worth it. They're small enough to put anywhere, hold fluid well and generate a large spark and flame (when you can get it lit). Only problem is the wick burns quickly. Though that's an easy fix. I love these, I'm gonna buy 8 more. BUY IT!!!

This lighter is small but has a big flame, i would say its definitely worth the 2.99 its just a great thing to have on your key chain.

Great little piece of kit. I have 2 of them, one is on my keychain the other is in the go bag. Easy to operate, pull just a little of the wick out and give a nice firm swipe. It does not take long to get a flame, 1 or 2 tries. Neat stuff! Thanks BudK.

I have half a dozen of these that I have purchased over the past years and if they didn't work, I wouldn't be buying them! Bud K has a good price on them. It takes a little 'breaking in' and getting used to using them and for goodness sake, fill the lighter fluid up in the reservoir, not the little strike end with the wick! It holds the lighter fluid for a week out in the wilderness and it's small and compact! Very nice for an extra fire starter in a survival pack! I have used mine many times but to be honest it doesn't do any more than a good Zippo lighter can do which Bud K sells! With the Zippo you can carry extra flints and wick and all you need to worry about is the lighter fluid. However, the Permanent Match Starter is a tad smaller and more compact. Happy trails, stay warm!

Like others have said it is a bit on the flimsier side and smaller than I expected. It does take a little bit of time to "break" it in but after that it is a great little flame producer and conversation starter. Well worth the money

Lighter Was A Little Small Than Expected. But Its Nice To Throw In Survial Bag Or Camping Gear. Only Problem I Had Was When You First Fill It And Light It It Flings Little Flame Drops All Over But After A Few Uses Its Fine.

I like this. Just like a Magnesium flint striker on the side, Takes a bit to wear in before it starts to strike. But when it does light, you have this great little fireball that doesn't go out. Mine did not come with the little chain, just a ring hoop attached to the hook clasp. Very nice fire starter for when u need a flame.

Its a cool LITTLE device, it is the size of a quarter. Its a nice addition to your pocket survival kit or your EDC. Not bad for the price and works as described.

this actually works. there is not a flame with every strike but will work in emergency situations. great for outdoors or "roughing it." the price is good. Id rather have this laying around the house than a lighter or mathces..
Dec 17, 2013

Wouldn't think you need directions but trial & error approach to find best striking flame results. Found out you have to completely fill to top with fluid not just soak inner felt. O ring seal on match stick broke after few uses. Wick on match stick burned off then could not light no matter what. Had to grind down match stick tip so would be closer to remaining wick to light. As long as wick is saturated with fuel you have a chance to light flame. More of a novelty than practical.
Aug 14, 2013
(3 out of 5)
It's very good for a survival situation, but incredily difficult to light, even after you've had the chance to break it in. The wick often doesn't catch the spark in time for it to light. So far It's only been able to light 3 times for me.

A LOT smaller than I expected. its kind of hard to strike, but after a few tried it will light. holds fluid for a long time. it burns well but the cloth a the end gets used up after a while

This lighter is small but has a big flame smaller than I expected but out in the woods that is great can't find how to change the wick though.

huge flame. bigger than the flame of a zippo lighter. kinda unreliable. smaller than i expected. 3 of 5 stars. definitely worth buying. not worth more than 5 dollars

an interesting concept for a lighter. these are a bit hard to use and require practice, It won't light every time. but if you run out of fuel then you can use some pocket lint as tinder and spark a little flame for an emergency light. it also has a nice little O ring to keep the fuel from evaporating.

This item is VERY SMALL. its like the size of a key chain. but if u need a semi emergancy item, this should do.

I really like the idea behind this but it is very hard to get the lighter to actually work. I spent more of my time slicing my fingers then actually getting the thing to light. And for as much fluid as you need to fill it, you could use a regular Zippo that lights every time.

Do not buy! I bought three of these for my kids but did not give it to them because they are total junk. When I first got them all out of the package they all had maybe two to three small pieces of little wick sticking out the metal stick. If you can manage to get them lit without spilling all the lighter fluid all over yourself you will soon find what little wick there is burning off immediately. After the wick burns away all you can manage to light is your fingers because they will be covered in lighter fluid from having to strike the metal end so hard on the strike plate.

very cheap, the wick part burnt off the 3rd time i stryked it, save your 3.00, its total junk.

I just bought one of these elsewhere. It took dozens of tries just to get a spark. After finally getting it to spark I've actually been able to get a flame a few times. A person could die trying to get it to light. I've had a tabletop lighter that works with the same technology and it lights every time. It's junk.

I got this as an add on to a larger order, figured y not for $3 right? Well I'll tell you why not... The seal around the top is a cheap o-ring that slowly leaked lighter fluid all over my bug out bag and I'm not ignorant, I know how to screw the top on and I checked to see if it was properly sealed. It looked good but about an hour after I attached it to the outside of my pack, I started smelling lighter fluid.. It had leaked the entire contents all into my pack causing slight damage and a major fire hazard. BudK did offer to replace it, not refund it but why would I want another unreliable piece of junk/fire hazard

i guess this product is either a hit or a miss. mine wont even spark half the time. the only time i had a successful light was when i physically put lighter fluid on the match itself. i tried filling it will fluid, it soaks it up but when it comes to lighting it just shoots sparks. i probably wasted about 30 strikes on the flint to get only one semi-successful light. however everyone else seems to have success. it could be a inconsistency in production. if you want a gamble for a couple bucks go for it. but i wont buy another one.
