1st I want to say that the shipping was lightning fast and the packaging was top notch. The hammer itself is the best self defense product that I have purchased ever. The quality is simply out of this world. I can see myself Reaching for this hammer when in need and being able to absolutely overwhelm my opponent. If I were you and I didn't Own one of these hammers I would pick up the phone right now Or go online and buy one right now you can't beat the price and you can't beat someone else you has 1 when you don't. Hammer time!!

This is a great tomahawk. It is balanced and throws very well. BUT the sheath needed some work so the point did not come thru and stab your arm. I had some rivets installed.

After a lot of use I brought this to my local Gander outdoors. After sharpening the guy told me it was the sharpest blade he’s ever made in 16 years. He then stated United Cutlery is in his eyes the real deal and never thought of them that way. I’ve beat this this thing camping over the past few years and after a sharpen it performance is legendary. A++++++++

The residential are I live in was recently hit with heavy snow and a tree fell in front of my house, blocking my driveway and the street beyond. The road crew was unwilling to help me clear my driveway and I was left to my own devices. The M48 tactical tomahawk was the only tool I had for such a problem... And it passed with flying colors!! In less than half an hour, I was able to reduce the tree to manageable pieces. Which says a lot about the quality of its craftsmanship. Simply put - M48 gets the job done. I couldn't recommend them more.

I bought one a few years ago, and it works and handles as I'd hoped. Great tool and awesome defensive weapon if need be. I have also bought a couple of other brands like a sog, but the m48 is my favorite.

I've had the m48 for over a year now and i take it with me camping for fun. The only complaint I really have about it is the sheath is poorly made. So far I've had three rivets pop out of it and two of the buttons no longer clasp all within the first month or so of use. I no longer keep it on my belt but instead in my ruck. I dont feel as badass without it on my side but it kept falling out or the blade would stick out just enough to scratch my hand when bushing by it. 10/10 would buy again but dont expect much of the sheath.

I've had mine for awhile. About two months ago I decided to make a burn barrel out of a heavy gauge steel 55 gallon drum. I put over a hundred holes in that steel barrel. And the spike was still very sharp with out any signs of wear. It's keeps guard beside my bed.

I've had this for a long time and I love it! It's sharp and the handle has a good feel to it. I've used and it and have never had any issues with it. Some people are complaining that it breaks after throwing it at dead trees, but they don't realize that these weren't made for dead trees. I definitely recommend this.

Tomahawk was great while it lasted. Threw it a few hours and the handle snapped off on impact. Was throwing at a dead oak stump. Fun for a little while. For the price I would say it's an okay buy.on a scale 1-10 I give it a 4

Sorry for the delay but I had to wait until the snow to drop its been very deep, I did get out to check this axe out worked very well I was very impressed with it but I felt that I needed to get a better grip on it so I grabbed some stick on skate board tape and what a difference I had more control with this axe I have a winner with this one. Thanks Mike

came very sharp and it is well built! the spike is not very sharp but with a little work it is an easy job to sharpen it up. this item was deffently added to my zombie weapon collection.

Let's start off by saying this thing is sharp. REALLY sharp, My brother and I both accidentally nicked ourselves with the bottom of the blade, the sheath seems decently durable so far.

I bought 2 of these and both arrived in perfect condition. The heads are quite sturdy. I might have to wrap the handle though. It seems a bit slippery. The ax has a good edge but the back of the spike is not ground to an edge. It is about 1/8" thick instead of having a knife's edge. Overall I am quite pleased with the tomahawk. Shipping was quite fast as well. But, no tracking number was given.

I rate this 5+++!!! This tomahawk is amazing!! This is an easy to buy tomahawk and the price is cheap! I didn't get this tomahawk from budk though, I got it at a local store only because it was 4$ Cheaper. I've thrown it too and it's an excellent thrower! I encourage everyone who can afford this hawk ( which about everybody can) to buy it immediately !

Originally saw this 'hawk on a History Channel show about the history of blades. Watched a guy use one to open a car roof like a can opener. I have nothing to complain about this 'hawk, worth every penny.

D**n....is all I can say! I've ordered several hawks from Bud K and other places and I have to say this one has the meanest rear point. I like how it's rated for throwing, chopping, and a can opener (haha)! My favorite handle is used as well. I'm not a big fan of cord wrapping everything.

I studied the specs carfully before I made my purchase. Unfortunately I didn't get them from BudK as I may have saved about 20 bucks but when I got mine I checked what I extimated to be the greatest strengths of these items. First and crutial to it's design is the center of gravity rests just about less then 1/2 an inch abot the handle crest. This along with the total length top to bottom gives you a very cost effective balance when throwning them into tight accurate spin velocities with a greater striking force than any fiberglass handle design. The quality of the steel used in production holds an edge for any survival or tactical task needed but can be sharpend far easier than cermanic edges. The sheaths are heavy guage high strength nylon for a secure safety feature when your not using it. I've owned mine for about a year now and with the advanced sharp edge design with the overall design I consider them to hold a top 2% value of any other combat\survival weapon in my collection and trust me I've put them to the test chopping firewood and using the pick end to dig out rocks off hillsides for campfire stones and have yet to chip or bend either the sharpened edges or pickaxe end to put them out of use. It's another reason why I've continued to buy sets of United Cutlery tools instead of just one, never hurts to have a back that you can count on. Whether it's a Machete, tomahawk, personal knife or short sword, United Cutlery has become a Name within it's own brand of quality and standards even the military or just the adventurer has come to rely on and BudK help to provide.

If you're not sure if this is the tomahawk for you, IT IS!!! This would be a great addition to any camp gear and especially a Bug Out Bab. Very rugged and durable and glad I ordered one. Another great product at BudK.

This is a steal of a deal. The particular item is NOT A THROWING AXE! It is a last stand/CQB implement and should be used such...and maybe a wood chopper if in a pinch. Good balance and feel in hand, and I would hate to be on the business end of this guy. The only minus is the sheath, it will not outlast the tomahawk.

Worth the $35 . I bought 2 of these axes and they are fantastic. They can chop wood (not as great as a hatchet) they have a terrifying whistle when you throw them. The back part isn't a blade but an incredibly pointy pic. The blades came razor sharp.

Very well made tomahawk. Sharp out of box. Really great for throwing or for working outside. The first one I bought, broke after using it for about a month. Luckily, BudK was very nice and had me ship the broken tomahawk back to them, and they replaced it with a brand new one!

Nice, quick delivery (ordered on weekend, delivered by Wednesday). Very solid feel to it, despite the head being relatively dull. But, hey, it's a tomahawk right? One side will crack an walnut and the spike will open a beer can. :o)

I have now purchased 4 of these M48 Tomahawks. Two as gifts, one to my father and, at her begging request, 1 for my thirteen year old daughter and then 2 for myself. I broke the first one but only after considerable and even irresponsible abuse. My 2 teenagers and I had been throwing it for at least 4 months, nearly daily. The handle and blade held up amazingly well to the fact we were beginners and had no clue what we doing. This Tomahawk took out 3 sheets of 1/2 inch thick ply wood. With every successful throw that spike sent chunks of ply wood flying off the back. It reminded me of a hollow point bullet, small entrance hole, Huge exit hole! So, eventually I come across a 4 foot long, 1 x 1 ft thick beam along with 3, 2 ft long 1 x 1/2 foot planks. I place 4 foot beam in front of a tree and stack the 3 planks on top of beam, laying long ways on the ground. I'm throwing by myself, having a blast. I've grown so accustomed to the M48's durability that I was just being careless. The handle kept wacking hard against the top edge of the 4 ft beam, a 90 degree angle mind you, and the Tomahawk handle kept striking that edge at a near 45 degrees. So I'm an idiot and eventually the handle snapped at about 3-4 inches from the neck, right where the heads insertion pieces stopped. I will be more mindful with the new one. And just remember everything has it's limits. I tried the SOG Vietnam styled Tomahawk in between and it is a great throwing Tomahawk. Every bit as sharp and durable as the M48, no dought! However, the spikes are dramatically different. The Vietnamese style is better from the sense of having a tool in the spike portion, good for prying or etching. But, from a throwing stand point that spike on the M48 is just Ridiculous! If you throw it at about 8-9 paces from your target, prepared to be slightly aroused by the 'thunk' sound it makes as it sticks in just about anything you could throw it at. Just not at eachother, please.

This axe is WICKED! If a person is not carefull they can hurt themselves. It`s just mean. To me the axe head could be a bit bigger but what has sure works. A person needs a back up weapon like this, after the stupid gun laws they rushed to pass here in Colorado, a person needs a backup, you will not be disapointed.

The M48 is the perfect weapon,it is perfect close combat as well as survival.of all the great products which i have bought from budk this is by far the most impressive. The M48 is 100% lethal whether held or thrown and as far as I can tell indestructable and believe me i have tried over the last year and a half. Its a monster and will probably be issued to soldiers eventually in the future. Can't say enough get one.

I LOVE IT. It was defiantly worth the forty bucks. I have had this for half a year now and have torture tested this thing to no end. The blade came sharp and ready right out of the box. Like I said I have tested it in every way I can and it doesn't have a nick on the blade. I even use the spike to break rocks. An epic buy. THANKS A TON BUDK.

I tried to order this item from a different website, hoping to save a few bucks. The item never came and I was very upset, luckily I got refunded. I decided I would be smart and rely on BudK like I usually do, and they did not disappoint. My tomahawk came in a few days. Its much stronger than I expected, and so far I have no complaints. I have used it to chop up logs and I've thrown it at targets, It is still strong, and has kept its edge. As of now I recommend this to anyone who wants a strong, great looking and functional tomahawk. I wouldn't abuse the thing, but lets hope it stays strong for years to come.

Awesome Tactical Tomahawk!!! Great price and craftmanship. The spike head of the Tomahawk is fierce and the ax head of the weapon actually works very well when chopping down small trees and brush. (A MUST HAVE)

I am heavy into hand to hand weapons, comes with the job as being a Marine I guess. I saw this producted and wanted to test its durability. Out of the box the weight feels like it was made just for me. Good ballance, got it to stick 95% of the time. The weight is put in the right areas and makes it an effective hand to hand weapon. This is going in my armory with my other hand to hand weapons. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in throwing, camping, or any good old fashion hand to hand weapon.

I would have to say this is hands down one of the best items I've purchased on this site. For the price I was expecting the quality to be average at best but this Tomahawk has impressed me more and more everytime I use it. It's very well balanced for throwing and sticks to it's targets very well as long as you know what you're doing. It's also impressively durable, I tested it out in harsh conditions for expected situations and it is still all in one solid piece just like It's straight out of the box. As for the sharpness obviously it's a combat tomahawk so it's not meant to be used specifically for cutting thick amounts of wood so yeah if you try using it to cut some logs it's going to take a few swings but it's gonna do the job and there is no question it will tear apart whoever you intend to be on the receiving end of this (ex. Dangerous wild animals) as long as you're experienced in knowing how to actually use a tomahawk in combat. I'm planning on purchasing a second one now that I know first hand how reliable it can be. Highly suggest this weapon to anyone.

Just got my M48 today and it's awesome! Took it out of the box and into the backyard immediately started chopping and puncturing stuff. Sure, it can chop wood okay but this thing is really designed to be a weapon and it suits that purpose well. It balances well and feels good in your hands. Yeah, perfect for up close Zombie killing action!!! It will go where I go from now on.

Great for chopping wood and stabbing tires, good for breaking rocks. Sheath isn't the best, and it doesn't come sharpened but it's a great tomahawk! BUY IT!!!!!!

This is the second one of these I own, and my opinion is still the same! Amazing! The reason Im giving another review is because, now that I have two, Ive found out that I can climb any tree around by just using the spike on these things like ice axes!! haha! Don't advise unexperienced climbers to try that one, but I weigh 260 lbs and Im 6'4" and these guys can hold me mid air when stuck in a tree! If that doesnt prove how quality a product this is, i dont know what could!

I bought this axe a week or two ago and i am so impressed. Right out of the box it is super sharp. The Point on the spear is door piercing as well as eye piercing goodness. I love it i took it out a couple nights after i got it and put it to the test. It splits wood like a pro, and i hit a old kitchen chair i had with it 2 times and on the second one it cracked the base in half. The only down side is I hit a screw on the chair and put a little nick in my blade, however it has still held up fine. I just took it out in the rain, got it all dirty and threw it and no problems whatsoever. Everything is still intact and tight like the day i pulled it out of the box. If your thinking about buying one of these things, stop thinking and BUY IT NOW!!! Great for my Bug out Bag and will be a wonderful camping axe when i get the chance. Thanks BUD K!

Got mine a few weeks ago and I LOVE IT!! This is definitely going in my bug-out kit, and will soon be joined by more blades from BudK. Hello i received my M48 a few weeks ago,it is awesome, if you want to keep the handle cord for grip(that you will) take it off before even using it and use something like GOOP glue to re wrap it. It will come rite of if you don't. It is incredible to throw ,I choose to hit the target spike fist,it has wicked penetration.I had some old oak doors as targets out back, which i turned to kindling.this is the most important flaw is the blade side facing down to your hand. i slipped with my grip before throwing ,just barely and the point poked my the top of my throwing hand.it hit my vein blood started squirting out 2 ft. no joke. i still love the M48 and read and watched about the danger of the bottom of the blade so i knew better.the curved blade and points make it sweet to look at and throw chop and grapple with you just need to learn how to handle it. i give it five stars. ps the sheath is only good for transport not wearing on your belt, you could disembowel yourself. regard, Jeremy Barnett.

This is an amazing buy. I recommend this axe to anyone. It's very sharp with a sharp spike and edge. The spike and hatchet part stay sharp unless your like my brother and hit barrels with it. And the spike does go through metal barrels with ease. Worth the 40$.

This is the best buy I have made on this site. I purchased my hawk a year ago and use it for throwing, camping, and hiking and it's still very sharp. This thing destroys anything and everything. Fallen tree on the trail... No problem. Remove unwanted Mesquite trees... To easy. Had some beers and wanna toss it around with some friends... have at it! The Sheath was crap, which is not that big of a deal, but still it should have been better.

Being my 4th buy from budk, I knew the m48 was going to be great. And it is. My favorite thing i have ordered from budk so far. It has a very reliable grip, and the blade has not come loose from the handle, (I have had issues with other things I've ordered with their handles coming loose) so i was really happy with this buy. I am having fun chopping and stabbing outside with this tomahawk, (trees, and bottles, not people). So definitely get this.

this tomahawk is AMAZING. let me say first of all there is no hole for the axe head. instead it has three screws that hold it into the 30% fiberglass reinforced blade. the tomahawk blade is fairly sharp and can be brought to a razor sharp edge with ease. overall a EXCELLENT buy for the price. i recommend it to any body that loves tactical weapons and the like.

The first time I held this Hawk in my hand, a had a single word enter my thoughts "SAVAGE!" I own several tomahawks, but seem to always snap the handles. Not with this BEAST, I have even used it for cutting bamboo, it sliced thru the limbs with more ease than ANY blade I've used in the past. Should the Zombie Apocalype come, BRING IT DEAD-HEAD, I'm your DADDY! LOL!

This is the first tomahawk I've ever had so I have nothing to base this off of but I love this tomahawk. I think I will buy a few more. Shipping was fast just 3 business days. Bigger than I thought but not a bad thing. Lighter than I expected too. Didn't come sharp but not a big deal.

This tomahawk is quite pugnacious and I mean it in a good way. If y'all buy the rats in your house will never disobey you again and will run in scorn. I've never seen a weapon perform with such a demeaning affect toward the intended target. I don't know about ya'll but if I saw someone pointing this ax at me I would obey their every command even if its to pick cotton! I repeat buy this ax it will do ya'll good! Sincerely the master of hog squeals!

You could do a real number on someone or something with this bad boy. Very strongly made, sharp and handles surprisingly lightly.

An incredible tool. I've used this hawk for light camp duty, chopping small diameter branches, clearing light brush, etc. I wouldn't use it for splitting logs or nothing, but then again, that's not this hawks purpose. Excellent light duty axe... tremendously vicious and effective self defense weapon. Very easy to throw, wicked sharp, and the wow factor is huge. Sheath was crap, expected that through others reviews. Easy fix with a trip to the leather store. Just my two cents worth.

This a great and fun tool. The first day I got it I went out side and started throwing it, the thing was spot on. I must say I wasn't that accurate in the beginning, but with lots of training and the will to get better I can nail the bulls eye every time. The m48 tactical axe is a great tool to have if you love the outdoors, hunt, and to just take camping. I don't leave the house with out it. This axe takes down quarter sized trees with 1-2 chops; stays sharp and sharpens easy. The only problem with it is that one day I went and used it in the rain the next day there was rust in the corners. Besides that ,great and fantastic axe. You need to buy one today. In fact by 2 and give 1 to your son he will love it.

Some people were complaining how the handle broke because they were hurling it at dead trees. First off, this is a tomahawk not a throwing axe, STOP throwing it especially at hardwood. If used as a tool, properly that is, it can take a HUGE beating. I've had it for a year now and I take it for every single hunting and camping trip there is. This thing is a monster. It's greatly balanced, not too sharp (so that the edge doesn't chip), and after all this abuse only a little paint came off. Worth the bucks.

I've never thrown axes until I stumbled upon this one. I was able to throw it with great precision soon after picking it up and with different throw techniques. It's solid, chops like no other, easy to sharpen and easy to throw! It's useful no matter where you go.

Even though I didn't buy this product from budk, I have to say that it's quality is incomparable. It holds up well to use, stays sharp, looks sexy, and is lightweight. Overall, whether you're using it for a survival pack, tomahawk, small breaching tool, room decoration, whatever. It's worth it.

This product and well done, its weight is very well balanced, sharp and his blade and its tip is infallible. Today I played several times in a tree and nailed all of them that it was a beauty. I cut some branches and also to my surprise I finished the job in no time. Thank Budk!
This is the best axe/tomahawk I have ever owned. I saw this axe on budk one day I got on to look for throwing knives, but instead I saw this on the side of the site. I bought it and 7 days later it showed up. As soon as I got past the box I went to my backyard and started practicing my throwing with it, and then I found a tree to chop down. Need less to say the axe did wonders, within a couple heavy smacks the tree was in my fire place. BEST AXE EVER!! I plan to buy the new M48 with the tan color to it. I think adding yet another AMAZING axe to my collection would make me 10x happy. Thank you BUDK!!

This thing is amazing!! Weighted very well and throws like a champ. The handle seems nearly indestructible. Blade comes very sharp but dulls with use. Other than that it still manages to take massive chunks out of anything! This thing is devastating!

OK, so I bought the m48 tomahawk a long while ago trust me this axe is a BEAST my only complaint is the grip is really slippery but I had an idea to use some hockey tape and ended up finding this tennis racket grip tape I bought it for like 4 bucks and OMG the grip is amazing makes this already deadly weapon that much more dangerous LOVE this axe.. sleep with it in my bed post next to my head every night..

First off, this thing looks B@D a$$. I ended up using this tool for a little home remodeling project. I had to take out cupboards, some sheet rock, and some plywood. This thing was in-valuable for those tasks. I ended the day of hard work with practice throwing it at an old door :)

I must say it is an excellent tomahawk. Very easy to control when throwing and manuvering. I am waiting for a chinese throwing hatchet to come in the mail. I will test them against eachother to see which one is better.(Accuracy).

I definitely recomend this for any fanatic. A great addition to any collection.

This is one tough Hawk. Beautiful design and handling. Out of box, fifty throws, 47 stuck and it stayed sharp. It has a menacing hardcore look to it that is backed up with what seems to be great construction. At this price, I bought six and plan to buy more for good friends at Christmas.

This tomahawk is amazing buy it right now. Its perfect for camping or just throwing it in your back yard. The first thing I did was throw it into a tree in mine and it stuck first shot, but if u plan on doing that make sure u find yourself a tree with not so many knots in it, mine did and it bounced out and stuck in the ground next to the tree. (if your going to throw any thing always be safe and responsible). The head of the axe is as sharp as it needs to be. The spike on the back is insanely sharp and will puncture anything with ease. Buy this it is worth the 40 dollars.

Amazing. I use it for throwing and it works perfect. (i expected no less) All I've let throw have liked it and are planning on buying some. Very durable handle and mean sharpened blade make a lethal weapon and the spike will stick in nearly anything. The only mistake your making by reading this is not being outside throwing it.

This axe is absolutely phenomenal. The quality and durability of united cutlery products are top notch and this axe is no different. It has great hacking power and is actually a relatively decent thrower. The only complaint I would have for this is that I wish the edges were sharper (especially on the pick axe side), but otherwise I would say that this is an incredible buy, and I would strongly suggest buying it if you are looking for a durable as well as versatile weapon. Thank you budk for the great product and my extreme satisfaction.

this is a fabulous product...I tested it on a variety of subjects, starting with some plant matter...a branch, and a yucca root...both were cut easily...then a soft foam wrapped in cardboard...and finally a piece of pork...all were cut and pierced with ease...then I tested the spike on an old, dead car stereo...and no damage occurred to the hawk...I am officially buying a second! perfect defense or camp axe...the spike is not sharpened along the edges, due to it's stabbing design...wonderful design

This tomahawk is awesome! The head is finely crafted and solid as a rock. I swung this at a cardboard box a couple of time, and I have to say, the heft of the axe mid-swing is very familiar and just feels right. If you want to sharpen it you can (I did), but for the traditional purposes of an axe such as this, its practically "plug and play" if you catch my meaning. Excellent buy!

I like this ax a lot. As soon as I got it I started throwing it and stuck it 10 out 10 times. Well balance and easy to use. The only problem that I had was I broke it on my second day. The ad said the handle is nearly indestruckable, I snap it off right below the tang with no problem. BUDK replaced it with no problem.

There are numerous options for combat axes out there, but of those generally available on the market, I believe this is the best designed. The size, shape, and heft of the axe blade as well as the overall balance is superb - probably one of the best ever developed. The spike is well-shaped with just the right amount of curve. However, I am NOT a fan of this "bolted on" shaft design (regrettably, most of the current crop of axes use that same design, so this piece does not suffer over much, at least in comparison) - the old Viet Nam combat axe, made from a single piece of steel (head and shaft together), was a superior design, even if the head was not as well shaped as this one's. Additionally, I had read reviews extolling the sharpness of the axe right out of the box. In truth, the one I got was too dull to cut butter and required considerable effort to put an edge on it. Additionally, the spike didn't even have a pretense of an edge and it had to be ground and polished considerably, along the top curve, just to create an edge (I left the lower edge of the spike blunted and squared to aid leverage when using the spike as a breeching tool). Aside from those complaints, I like the axe and consider it by far the best of the available, commercial options, particularly for the price. I would not trust it to use as a utility axe, but as a combat axe, I think it would do extremely well, tho' a full length metal tang would be preferable.

Got the M48 Tomahawk for Christmas and i love it. I have practiced throwing it and I am not to pleased. It's heavy which is good for fighting close quarters, but at a distance you are at a disadvantage. Over all very good tool.

Great product & great price. This multi-purpose tomahawk feels really solid with a good balance, the weight is good too. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because I would like a tomahawk made out of carbon steel. It comes sharp but it could use a touch up. This tomahawk is perfect for survival, camping, warfare, wood chopping, also be careful this is NOT a toy. It is a dangerous weapon!!

I got this axe summer of 2012. It was my favorite thing I have ordered off Budk, until I threw it today. DO NOT THROW THIS AXE. The video Budk has on their website makes it look good for throwing, it's really not. Mine snapped in half where the three screws going down the handle end. I am hoping with some strong glue and tape, I will make this axe good enough to use, not throw. (And carefully use at that). I am very disappointed that my favorite item broke. Be very careful with this axe if you get it, I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

This tomahawk is one of the most affective tools i have ever used. You can cut down trees with is like butter. The thing is good for trowing, very accurate and sicks almost everytime....as far as durability i dont know ive had to replace 3 most likly from trowing it.... still is a bada** weapon..

My tactical squadron loved this when I got it! The head itself performed beautifully. I was even able to pierce a bullet-proof military helmet with the spiked end. 4/5 because the thing finally broke. Be careful not to continue throwing it with all your might or you might end up with a useless axe head. I'm ready to get a second one though. Good job United Cutlery!

I put this tool through some paces, and over all, I like it. It has sufficient heft and balance as to provide adequate penetration on many materials, but not so much so as to create difficulty in extraction. Admittedly, I haven't tried throwing it - I've read some complaints about the handles breaking when thrown - because I think there are very limited applications where throwing the tool would be useful. I was disappointed in the smooth handle construction. It is disturbingly bereft of any substantial grip texture. Should your hand get sweaty, or if the handle becomes fouled by Zombie juices, it could easily slip out of the hand. I found a quick application of Hockey Stick Tape yielded an exponential improvement in this issue. I also dislike the scabbard. Seems flimsy and I'd prefer a MOLLE attachment.

Built well, the head is a bit too small in my opinion, but it will still do all the damage you need. I wish the handle was wrapped or something rather than being just metal. Might make it easier to hold. Great tomahawk though, yet to try throwing it, but even if it isn't great for throwing it is awesome for anything else you could think of!

Ax kicks, but the sheath is dangerous. It allows the beard or front part of the ax to twist and hang out like a 1/4 or 1/8 of an inch. Now that don't sound bad but look at that beard and its as sharp as it looks. I had it mounted to a belt on left side and cut my thumb twice in the same night. The sheath needs work, but the axe is killer.

Received this nice tomahawk just yesterday and when I opened it up, it had a very nice handle to fit my hand. Wanted to test it out but it was haha like 12:30 at night. So then just later that day...I tried it and uh...well...every d**n time I threw the thing...the spike would keep ending up into my target. I think I just need some more time on how to throw it correctly for the blade to sink into my target But other than that....I do love it. The sheath too on the other hand, isn't too great....I'd recommend making some kind of "quick release" type of deal if you're into the outdoors and whatnot. The quality of the tomahawk is exquisite...I do love how it looks and feels in the fitting on my hand. I would've gave this lovely little tool a 5 star rating except for the sheath..all in all, that's it...if you're looking into some type of a fun, compact, self-defense tool...you got it right here. The m48 delivers what ya need.

This is one sweet tomahawk. Beautiful and sharp right out of the box. Too bad on my second use with it the handle cracked right below where the metal from the head ends inside the handle. Still have not received any word on if I can just purchase a new handle, or get a refund, or anything. Its been 2 weeks and still no word. I actually give the hawk 4 stars and sadly 1 star for the BudK customer service people.

I bought this M48 Tomahawk back in April of 2011 so I have had it for a year now... I have yet to break the handle but after reading a years worth of reviews I see that it does happen, and can easily see how. When I bought mine the first adds were claiming that the blade was made of "Forged" steel but that was clearly a typo as now the adds clearly and accurately state that it is "Cast". The sheath is garbage and some of the securing snaps have pulled through the cheap nylon. For the $35.00 I guess its worth it but would not buy again.

A very nice hawk. Throws nicely and is weighted so that it sticks about 80% of the time. Only problem is my (INDESTRUCTIBLE) handle snapped right off of the head. The head was lodged in the target it hit and the handle went flying. Overall nice hawk, but if you are serious about this weapon and you are trusting it with your life, don't buy this weapon, it WILL fail you in your time of need.

Okay first of all this thing can really back up its name but there is some things that are not the best. I just broke my second one ten minutes ago and NO it was not a dead tree but I was still throwing it and not hard so overall they could make some improvements to the middle core. You can tell that some fibers were not carefully combined and that is not safe.

Bought this in October of 2011 for my son's birthday. He's a beginner at throwing so he certainly missed sticking it often, but for a "Virtually Indestructible" product I wouldn't think that the handle would break so quickly. It broke at the first bolt where the metal blade is inserted into the nylon handle. Guess I should have bought a cheaper one for a beginner.

i had this for about 2 months with little use, i loved it, it was awesome looking and it felt great, until me and my brother were throwing it at my dead tree and it snapped clean right under the third bolt. the metal part of the hawk is great, but the handle is just awful. its ok, but if you buy one of these you have been warned.

...until the handle snaps off after about twenty or thirty throws. Head sank right into a section of tree trunk, but the handle snapped clean off right below the bolsters on the sides of the head. This would be decent as a camp axe until the head busts off, but tomahawks are meant for throwing, not chopping wood. Would not recommend. Looks great on the wall or a shelf, but buy a one-piece steel solution like the Kit Rae axe for repetitive use, they don't break.

I had one of these and as far as I am concerned it was not worth the box it came in.....the first time I used it it was fun and the second time I threw it the handle broke off right where the tang stops and the plastic handle begins.....I'm not new with a hawk and have a great collection of arms and armor. I consider saying a weapon in indestructible means u cant break when its brand new....I'm not Chuck Norris so I don't think I threw it so hard I broke the sound barrier so its not like it was users err.
