The baton was as well made and easy to use as the one issued when I was a Deputy Sheriff

I bought a couple of these and have had them for a while now. Seems that they would work as expected even though I haven’t had to use them in a self defense fashion. At least it’s good to know it’s there if needed!!! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for non lethal self defense devices at an affordable price

This was my second purchase of this item. The only reason I bought it was because I lost the case for the first one. In my old and now new neighborhood there are dogs that run loose and this tool keeps them at bay. If an owner is walking his dog off lease and they (the dog) charge you, extend the tool and the owner will run to their dog rescues.

The baton is an excellent weapon and well worth the price. It’s very durable and will serve me well in a self defense situation. I have to have a permit to carry it in my home state but I will get that permit and carry it soon. It’s a little hard to close but I figured out how to close it and I can tell it will definitely do some damage in a self defense situation!

Does exactly what it's intended for. Heavy duty quality, excellent price.

This is designed to lock in the open position, in proper use the ends are used to strike and jab. For this reason it is difficult to close sa you wouldn't want it to collapse in use. To play with it you can do what you want but oiling it excessively will seriously limit its intended methods of use, it's not a ball bat there's many more users than swinging it.

This is a great baton, and come out and extends easily. It's harder to put back in, but you really have to slam it hard on a hard surface, such as blacktop to get it back in. Hight recommended!

I’ve used all kinds of batons, this one fits right in the door pocket like a champ. Easy to get to and deploy at a moments notice.

Honestly I was skeptical of the quality in reading some of the comments before I bought this collapsible baton. To my surprise it works well and is fairly well made. Listen, if you want your equipment to function properly in a pinch, you must TAKE CARE of your equipment. When I first received it I DID NOT immediately fling it open with force. I disassembled it, put a few drops of oil (quality gun oil will do or WD 40) inside the mechanism as well as in between each sleeve of steel. Then I carefully gave it a gentle jerk with my wrist to open it. DO NOT PULL ON THE END OF IT to try and "fully" extend it. Then I flipped it upside down, when out to my concrete driveway making sure it was perpendicular to the ground, and let gravity bump it closed. It may take a couple tries, but there ya go. Take care of your equipment, and it will take care of you.??

Great for personal defense, easy to carry and deploy.

I have owned telescopic batons of other brands but I had either sold or given them all away. Recently started pulling security at a church in town and needed a non lethal defense device. I did not want to pay the prices that name brands require. This Budk model performs well. Sometimes you have to sling it out pretty hard to get a good lock out that won’t collapse but other than that it is very solid. Performs better than I expected for the price. I bought one for a friend and two for myself. One for the car and one for the house. I never go on a walk without it.

When you flick the baton is open, you don't want it collapsing on you. The day I got it, I worked it with a rubber mallet, so to close it, I just bang the tip on a hard floor. DON'T do this indoors, or you'll dent or crack something.

The product was received in good condition, however the baton holder is of poor quality.. Wished it would have been better material.

I love these. I bought four. I will buy more. However, since we are all alittle like minded -- for something less attention getting, I have been carrying a $15 adjustable cane from Walmart when I go out in public. It serves the same purpose when adjusted to 31". Just a thought. Less police attention. PW

This is a good, sturdy defense weapon. Ejects as it should and while it may be abit difficult to get it back in it doesn’t really upset me too much. Mainly because the un-ejected weapon itself is enough to do some serious damage. I will be buying all my defense weapons from this site from now on.

Great it did exactly what it was intended for. Did not collapse upon use.

Most batons like this are designed to not close up when "stabbed"; which is good. Instead tap the expanded baton part's side against bottom of shoe a couple of times. It will loosen up and then you can close it.

Recently bought 3 of these. Have been buying my batons (different lengths) here and had not been disappointed. The batons are well built and you can be assured that it will not collapse easily once deployed. And as usual—-very fast shipping!

I bought two of these - one for my wife, the other for myself. I love it! Easy to flick open in an emergency. My wife is having some issues closing hers, I usually have to do that for her, but the important part is she can open it if she needs it. Solid work. Would buy again.

Bought two of these and will be buying more in the near future. Used dry lubricant to make closing them easier. They worked pretty good during training with multiple deployments. A great training tool at a great price.

I gotta say I got more than I expected out of this and it is very nice. I plan to buy more of these when I can.

It is heavy not light; weight 1.5 lbs. Good quality in my assessment. The sheath has belt loop, has a ring on opposite end to hang/hook. It will be a good item for travel anywhere on earth for self-defense. In fact buy 2 or more for you and love ones as possible. Take it with you to use when travel aboard or anywhere. I highly recommend it. The issue about sticky can be solved by put some oil between the joint and it will work better to snap it back in place. Any lubrication oil will work. Rotate the tube when you inject oil at the joint and it will work better eventually. I tap it back in place or with enough force you can twist it back in place.

one of my friends got me one as a gift last year, it's freaking awesome, i've put it through all it's paces, including whacking a concrete pillar as hard as i could, it didn't bend but some of the coating came off, all in all it's pretty good and does take some tinkering to get it to close, some wd-40 and a slight heat and hammer and it opens and closes with ease and stays extended

No one can complain for the money on this item.. but if yours sticks in the out position, then just hammer it back down, unscrew the bottom, take it part and sand down the area where it sticks until it works better, that simple.

@$10 each, I bought 3. Fine item for such a price. Another review mentions using this as a "Disarm and Damage" weapon, well these can do a lot more than disarm. Deployment isn't too easy, but not hard either. A few dozen extensions/retractions will 'break in' the baton and make continued deployment and retraction an easier process. They can bend somewhat easily if used against a hard object, which can interfere with retraction. My brother applied petroleum jelly to his for an excellent effect, though a little too easily deploy-able for my taste. If you want to, start with a very light coat. A certain sense of intimidation comes just from the extension. Quite viable as a deterrent as well, though honestly I just bought mine for fun & looks. Sheathe is of good quality in terms of material and make, but the design itself could've been improved around the velcro strap area. Still valued @ 5/5.

First off, the nylon sheath for this baton is crap. The Velcro comes apart very quickly, fraying then ripping. Other than that, the baton works as it should. Most of these collapsing, quick-draw batons require you to slam it into a hard surface to close them. And some of the more expensive ones are a bit tricky the first few times to close them just as this one, so it is comparable. For the price, you won't find a better baton. Get two and they're $9.99/each. I've bought 4 of these now and am going to buy more because they are a real "HIT" and a bargain that you just can't "BEAT!"

Thought it was going to be junk for the price and the negative reviews, took a chance bought it. Great, study, a little hard to get back in some times, not always. I'll buy another for sure!

Easily Maneuverable, Very Strong & Surprisingly Light Weight Think I'm Gonna Order A 2nd One. If U Want A Good Self Defense Weapon That Can Disarm & Cause Damage If Neccisary Look No Further

thought it would be junk for the price but it is very good i folds out with a flick and is ready to defend yourself i could break bones with this thing its really hard to close but id rather have it stuck out instead of it collapsing when i need it the most

I have bought several 21 inch but this time I bought the 26 inch and it works just fine. you do need to use a hard surface to CLOSE it but that is for all of them that is normal. It works just fine for me and now that I have tried the 26 inch I might just get another one. I do put a (super light) coat on WD 40 ( to prevent rust) because it is a friction lock.

Bought 2 of the 26 inch batons under the Bud K "2 for" price and am well satisfied. They expand fine and collapse fine; I hold the grip by only 2 fingers when I slam the tip on pavement so that the shaft can help vibrate the grip to help loosen the lock, and it collapses fine. The big name brand, professional grade batons are smoother with better steel, but they cost 6 to 15 times more money than the Bud K, and I don't think that a young, punk criminal who is struck by either one would be able to tell the difference. This is a serious item, so if you buy one at least watch on line training videos, start off slow till you get used to swinging it, keep your spare (alive) hand out of the way, and pay close attention. This baton can do serious damage to whatever it impacts: it's not a toy nor replica.

I already have several 21 inch and decided to try this time the 26 inch. It works just fine and you do have to impact it on the carpet or ground to get it back in BUT if you want to do a jab or grab with other hand on shaft and poke with (do you really want it to collapse?) Just wondering because that does matter to me. When you are trained in it you do use a jab when they charge at you and grab part of the shaft to have a two handed grip and also jab with it.

I tried others that were a total piece of junk so I thought that I would give Budk a shot but was a little leary about the price. Turns out that I had to look no further it works perfect every time extending and retracting it is strong and very reliable just ordered more today

After about the second opening the last piece flung out and left a hole in my wall

Maybe I got lucky but mine works perfect. No issues at all. It expands right out and is capable of delivering some brutal blows to someone. It closes up properly as well.

This baton is extremely good in the hands. The instant you open your box and hold it, You know that is a WEAPON and not a toy. For those who are unsure about getting for the price. It seems way too cheap for a good baton right? Well here's the truth. This is quality that other places charge as much as $60! This baton is a steal. My only con about it (I've had this for about an hour) is that when it expands it won;t always stay locked. It will also not always open when you flick your wrist. It gets stuck sometimes. But I rate this 5 stars because of the price and extremely good quality of this baton. The stuck thing will probably get less noticeable with practice. Get this baton while it lasts!

Puts some WD40 on it when I first got it and it worked fine.

First off, I rarely rate ANYTHING 5 stars (or 100%) but these batons are best bought in sets of 2 or more. I kinda wish that I had bought more of these so I could give them to family members as presents. They are typical average batons. The trick is that they are 26" long! Not your average "cheapie" baton that is only 12 - 16 inches long. Forget about buying the expensive ones and just get these instead. Also, as with all friction locks, a little Vaseline or petroleum jelly will make these perform flawlessly. Just take off the end cap and wipe rods with a paper towed to "shine" the steel and not only will these work as good as the more expensive ones, they will stay maintenance free for a while. When they get a bit sticky again just wipe 'em down with a bit of Vaseline again and they will be good as new!

It was everything i anticipated to be, works well and haven't had a problem with it.

These batons are basically the same as the batons I carried as a police officer for years, although those batons cost our dept. over 2 1/2 times as much. Had an end cap come off of one, but it was easily fixed.

Ordered one of these when they were 9 bucks and free shipping. Should have ordered 3 as these are basic collapsible batons that work as described. Some of these people seem to want a hyper-alloy, kill a velociraptor with a push of a button device for 12 bucks. It's a collapsible club. A great one for the money at that.

Great baton my first, but it is amazing it works well. WD-40 just a lil and its good to go! Sheath isn't all that but for the price this baton is a MUST have so buy it!

It works great. It is a wonderful line of defense if ever needed. I recommend you use 3in 1 oil or a lubricant oil as soon as you get it. It is just common practice to lub and care for a weapon. IT IS AWESOME!

I've purchased 3 of these over the last 2 years and I've never had problem one. They snap open quickly and I have to hit them on the floor to close them but I'd never want one that didn't lock up tight. I bought 2 for my daughter who is a black belt instructor and I pity the fool who'd challenge her when both of them spring out at once.I think they are great.Oh yea, and I've never oiled mine.

this is an awesome weapon for close combat and maybe for long range if you know how to throw. my only concern is i don't know if this has happened to anyone else but as i extended the baton the last section of the baton shot out like a bullet ricocheting of the flour and hitting my dads car thank god there was no damage done to the car.

I bought a pair @2for$10/each. The set is definitely worth the $20. As everyone has mentioned, these should be oiled before use. I flicked my pair open right out of the box,already knowing the common issue, and without fail they got stuck. I don't care how young or old you are..you're going to want to engage these right away! So having worked on 30+yr old 2stroke engines for years, I went straight to my work bench where there's always a can of PB blaster. WD40 is good but there's nothing PB can not do. Once free, I took them apart and sprayed them down. Feels like the factory intended!

I got this today and its the most coolest thing I think I have ever owned. The price is great for this little massacre.

This baton far exceeds what you expect to get for the price. It is completely solid, and with a little lubrication and practice, you can open it with a deliberate flick of the wrist, and possibly even close it if you apply a little elbow grease.

haven't tested it but i opened it and it didn't go all the way then flicked it harder and it took 15 minutes to close i had to slam it on the ground and not the tip is all scraped i oped it again a couple days later and the dumb thing literally wont close it is literally sitting their open the sheath is cheap nyon it works ok

I ordered one for my wife and myself. I read the reviews and made sure to take off the top and add a little bit of lube oil down the top and to all of joints. After the oil was allowed to do its work, they both worked fine opening and closing. The strap is also not great but good enough. I recommend the product at the sale price.

I had some issue opening and closing but was able to make it work. I have used expandable batons for a while so it was no big deal. It is not an ASP but it seems to work fine for the price. I haven't used it on a training bag to see how it does but for $9.99 I'm sure it will be fine. I used some lock tight on the tip that kept coming unscrewed. When it locked up and wouldn't close I put my hand on the tip and wiggle the rod until it comes lose and then closed it. I also used a light lube on the rod which helped.

These have a bit more play in them but for the money no problems except trying to get it retracted. It did not work every time but I would rather that to be a small problem than going the other way.

All the bad reviews go some where else no problems yet. Great product no complaints from me!!!!!!!!!!!

I had given one of these batons to each member of my family so they will have something in the vehicle when they are driving.I believe in their safety and today's world they need something to protect them in a situation that it was call for it is just the right tool that would be needed and the price was also great

After having one of these stolen from my car, I reordered a couple. SOme of these have been on the shelf for a while, they are steel, steel rusts. The end cap can be removed and the item disassembles for cleaning if necessary. Or just spray with break free or WD-40 and wipe. Reassemble and keep handy. Like any item in your defense arsenal they require maintenance. Recommended as they are inexpensive enough to lose. Battledoc.

I would definitely recommend this item to a friend and not hesitate to use it on a foe. Of course you may have to make a few minor adjustments based on your needs (unscrewing the small knob on the end and add a drop of 3in1 oil). By doing this, it will create a smoothness and allow for seamless opening when you have to use the baton.

This is an excellent product for the price. If you are looking for a self defense device that is easily concealed and instantly accessible then this is the one. With a flick of the wrist you will extend your reach and deliver a stunning blow where you choose to do damage most. My only recommendation is that you check out its functionality before using. I found that at first the telescoping action was slightly sticking and that by unscrewing the telescoping tip and the end cap I could remove the functioning parts and easily apply a dab of petroleum jelly where the sections met. This greatly improved the telescoping action, both extending and retracting. Don't pass up this deal, its an excellent buy.

What can i say it cost me 12.99$ yet mine works as it costed 80$ you cant go wrong with 12 bucks i mean you get what you pay for and this item is definitely worth the money.

Had a little trouble getting to to collapse, but it started working. What do you expect for $12.99? The nylon case was a disappointment. The velcro wasn't there on the flap that closes over the baton, so, it's pretty much useless.

I bought one awhile back, even though it sticks when putting it back in, I just give it a tap on the floor and it goes back in. You get what you pay for and for the price it is great, I am in the process of ordering 3 more, I have purchased many items from Budk and plan on buying a lot more.

In my security guard training, it was emphasized that you should never hit anyone in the head with a baton, as it will very likely result in permanent brain damage or death and the user being charged with murder or attempted murder. DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS DEADLY FORCE IS JUSTIFIED (i.e., you are attacked by an armed person). The instructor said to think of the baton as a "behavior control device" and use it primarily on major joints such as elbows, wrists, and knees, as this causes great pain without risking a fatality.

Works great, and at an affordable price. Opens easily and locks well, as it should.I would not recommend hitting someone in the head with this device unless it is a life or death situation. Aim for the arms, legs, and upper chest area.

It got stuck the first time I opened it. After I pounded and made it collapse.. no issues. It gets a lot of use cracking skulls.

This expandable baton is made of sturdy, durable metal with a non-slip grip. It is a wonderful tool for beating off dogs during your walks around the neighborhood.

Out of the box it is stiff and does not want to collapse after you open it. I took it apart and found surface rust on the inside. I cleaned it up and put some light grease on the ends where they were sticking and it works great now. for the price it is expected that you might need to do some work to get it to operate properly. I like it.

Excellent for the price period. It did get stuck usually but I enticed that up quickly with some lubricant. Then the top price flew out if extended too hard. That was fixable by flaring out the bottom part of the top piece. Very fun to play with and hurts like a mother.

These are very good for the price. A little rough on the finishing details (threads on the endcaps) but both of them worked without any problems. They are a little stiff when trying to collaspe them but that could be because they are new and I did not lube the sections yet. I will probably order more in the near future.

pretty good had some problems with the top tube flying out but it comes apart pretty easy to fix it once fixed have not had any more problems out of it keeps my dumb**s friends away from my truck pretty good over all

Not bad for the price, the wife's works well straight out of the box. Mine took some lubricant to get it working. Just flat out locked the 1st time I used it. Overall for the price a good deal.

A little lubrication. Work the lube into the baton & you're good to go. Probably not the best baton on the planet, but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this thing. Its worth the money for personal protection. It comes with a nice sleeve to carry it in.

knock-off of a better made baton. a lil rust, nothing 2 minutes w/sum sandpaper didnt fix. careful with the lube, else you'll find a segment or 2 won't want to stay locked till ya swing h**l out of it. ad sez it's 26 inches long. tape measure sez its 24 inches long. just buy it.

great baton....works well

Out of the box, this baby needs just a little TLC and then, boom! There are some rough edges around the tubes where they meet. Find the burrs and file them down, a round file works great. Oil with WD-40 and work it in and no problems.

Just like the other comments say, you need to lube it before extensive use. I've used ASP batons for a while and this is a good baton for the money. Difficult to deploy and collapse at first and I noticed some ionization spots in the action tubes. Brillo pad and a good thick lube, lightly applied takes care of it. For those of you who have to slam the baton on the ground to close..thats the way you close it, even the ASP's.

Had problems at the start. Opened the baton and had to really beat it on ground to get it to close. So I oiled it up with some 3 in 1 and now it works fairly good. I suggest that if you purchase this that the first thing you do is oil it with some good oil and I think will not have any problems.

Heavy duty product perfect for morning walks where unsecured dogs are often the rule. Needed a bit of oil but otherwise handy and very solid. A cane is effective but cries out "senior citizen." This thing sends a very different "stay away" message.

Recieved baton,looked great, held great everything was great. Except i noticed the stiching in the holster was torn and about to rip. Well it did just that. Called BUDK told them what happend sent me out a new baton and holster. Dont worry this holster is working great.

I was pleasantly surprised with the weight and heft of my new baton. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this thing. Like other reviewers, I have found that it is very difficult to close after you snap it open, but I haven't tried oiling mine yet. I'll try a little WD-40 and see if that helps. Otherwise I am very satisified.

the only issue i have with this lil beauty is the foam grip. don't get me wrong its very comfy and durable but when i close it the grip wants to move around a lot and almost fells like it might slide off over the end if pushed to hard, but other than that with a little lubrication on the internal parts and after throwing the holster in the trash its an awesome buy def worth the money.

Got this a week or so ago, and its great. Packs a bigger punch than I'd expected, and was heavier too. Closing it takes some practice, but its completely do-able. Personally, I need to almost jump up to hit the baton hard enough to shut it, but i love it. Cant wait to meet a few bullies.

I got these as a 2 for $10 each special to do double stick drills. Like the other reviews state, the sheath is not the best quality. I'm using super glue to keep the Velcro on. The baton itself has a hard time collapsing, so I unscrewed the back and looked inside to find a lot of rust. SPRAY THE INSIDE OF THE BATON WITH WD40 before you use it! After lubricating the inside of the batons they work like a charm! They stand head and shoulders above the spring batons you'll buy on this site (I should know I bought one for $10 and it warped on me). With these batons I was able to tear the crap out of a leather practice dummy. The impact from the batons ripped holes in the practice dummy and nearly took one of its "arms" off.

Nice weight to it, but it gets stuck in the extended position. It doesn't come with instructions, so I searched Google for help. Even with all the online suggestions, I still can't get it to fully retract (the tip portion is still extended) so the harness that comes with it is rendered useless. Disappointed, but something is better than nothing when you ride public transportation.

Just received mine not bad for the money but it is very hard to close you got a really slam it on something hard like concrete I'm going to try a little WD-40 on it the pouch it came with for your belt stitching on it's very cheap unstrapped it already ripped the velcro piece off but again not bad for the money

It was like some others said. It flew apart trying to extend. Hard to open. Took several times hitting it on the floor to close it. Rust dust. Holder was cheaply made. Returning it for a new one. Overall love this site for weapons.

The baton worked good right of the box. It does lock up pretty hard, but a good tap on the ground and it goes right back in. I realize that this isn't the same quality of the name brand batons, but for the price, it will do me just fine. Oh, and the case is pretty sad. I'm going to have to fix it since the velcro was missing!

I had the same issue as other people. The front bit flew out after repeated use. It's an easy fix though. It's a bit rusty inside but it doesn't affect performance.

Not bad for the money but I had to take apart and expand the ends so they don't come apart. Seems to work okay for me.

Bought 2, and initially disappointed. Stuck in the open position to the point I did not think it would ever collapse. After speaking with cust service, I decided to work on them a little before deciding what to do. Took them apart, heated up the inner part where they were sticking with a hair dyer. Applied a little Frog Lube...they now work fantastic! The sheath is cheap, but what do you expect?

For the price, I was not expecting high quality but it does the job. First thing I did was to take it apart to see how it was made. There is a screw on the inside that can come loose and make the two sections fly out if you are not careful. It does take a lot of force to close it the first time but it gets easier after that. The foam grip on the handle moves and squishes down, no big deal but then you have this nice black baton with a shiny, almost chrome, ring that calls attention to it. A little superglue fixes that though. To me it is worth the money, but if you are in law enforcement and plan on actually using it everyday then you would want a higher quality baton...

For the price paid, it's not too bad. When I unscrewed the base and took out the extenders, there was a lot of rust powder. It snapped open with ease, but due to the rust inside no doubt, it was very difficult to close. I'll oil it up and see if it improves.

BELIEVE every review that says to clean/lubricate the innards of these batons before you deploy them even once! Once, the smallest section even flew out the end while flicking it open! I was able to re-swage the end of that section with the round-end of a carriage bolt, but that was annoying! Once you get this sucker tuned, it works very well. So plan on putting some elbow-grease into this one to make it shine. :)

The baton actually measures 23 inches instead of 26, but that is probably a good thing. I think 26 inches would be too long. The foam-covered handle is comfortable to hold and doesn't transmit the shock of hitting something to your hand. The baton is painted steel and manufactured in China. It seems pretty sturdy, but the knob sections of the two I bought don't want to lock in the open position. As a $10-$12 toy it is fine for whacking old tires or ripping up cardboard boxes. Because of the potential illegality, I don't plan to carry one for protection. If I needed to depend on a baton for self-defense, I would spend three times as much and get a really good one. It is probably worth the purchase price, but not a whole lot more.

It is good but I had to use WD-40 so it would close and it looks like it has had a years worth of use because I have to slam it on the ground to close. One more thing, it is is a little smaller than expected but other than those three things it still is a nice self defense weapon.

The sheath is far from heavy duty in fact I just got it today and it feel apart. The stitching came apart on the fasteners. There are loose threads all over the place. The baton is a little rough shape, its got scrapes on the end cap and rust on the interior of the end cap. Otherwise it seems like a good buy.

It has a good weight to it and it's a good length for me (being 6'3"). If you are smaller or are buying for your wife's purse, you will want a smaller one. When I initially flung it open it was satisfying. However, I can't get the stupid thing collapsed again. I think I may have to take a hammer to it. I would definitely not describe the sheath as "heavy-duty". The elastic bands that hold it together are already coming apart at the seams. Also, when I unscrew the bottom, I notice that there is rust on the inside, which may have something to do with it being stuck open. Overall, it you are looking for an expandable baton, it's a decent deal for $13. Just be warned the expanding part may be a one time deal.

This baton is an excellent product. The one I was given as a gift, had either a faulty cap or bad treads on the grip tube. Within a rather short amount of time the back cap came flying off. it can still be used if someone want to carry it in the out position, or fabricate something to replace the cap. Not a bad product, just check it thoroughly, after each use, and be careful when closing this.

The baton itself is nothing special, except cheap. It would be a 4 star product if he thing was easier to close because right now, it' takes a good 2 minutes of hitting it on the ground as fast as possible before it closes at all.

the first one i purshed was junk the end peace of baton came right out when i flung it open an have not got around to sending ti back yet but hopefully i will get a working one

I guess I am the smart one here. I know that I am purchasing a cheaply priced product, so I know that it is not going to be of the highest quality. The first thing that I did was take it apart clean the light rust from it. Oiled it, and of course put it back together. Taking extra care to tighten the ends. Mine works just fine. If you purchase this product thinking that it is going to be equal in quality to the ones priced at 100.00+ then you are out of your mind. That is just my opinion, and what do I know.

This baton seems to me to be very cheaply made. The first time i went to try it out i tried it on a dead branch with the diameter of a nickel and as i made contact the front end popped off. dont buy it.

From reviews looks like they all come rusty, after expanding i have hard time putting it back in, i have to hit it into something hard with its tip, like concrete, to push it it, it shouldn't be like it

The top half of the baton flew out after about two or three test openings and now simply will not lock at all. It truly is a piece of crap and of course, with my luck, I forgot to return or exchange it within the right amount of time. I don't understand why there isn't a chain attached from the top half to the bottom or something similar. would be a lot better than the "High quality solid taper lock" guess ill have to modify it. also the handle is not textured. it's as smooth as velvet and is made of this cheap foam like stuff. boo budK. bad job.

The baton feels great and fairly easy to eject but very hard to retract and sometimes won't even close at all. I have opened it and the paint has been scraped off from opening and my many attempts to close it. Probably wouldn't recommend this.

Fairly cheesy. Hard to get it to collapse. First time I needed a hammer. Every time i pop it open takes more than one try but more of the powder coating is scraped off every time you try to get it back down again. Holster is cheesy and falling apart right out of the box. I need to make it a new one. However it will do the job I may require which is put an attacker on the ground and make him hurt. Might be useless after the first blow though. But to be expected out of a cheep chinese item.

The old saying "you get what you pay for" keeps coming to mind. I'm no stranger to the how these, if not used properly, won't stay out or get stuck out. Heck I find it funny when someone I show the item to tries to close it by hitting his own hand...dumb^$$. But when the 2 that I bought arrived & I was showing a friend, I whipped it out and the top section went flying! I'm lucky I didn't hit anybody! So the only thing I bought myself for xmas this year was not made well enough to be used. So I gave them both away to people I'm sure will put them in a drawer somewhere or something to that effect. Anyway...No I would not recommend one of these Batons. Not unless your just getting it for looks. Because it looks nice, looks like a genuine MP Issue, just be careful!

I bought 2 of these and got them both today. I was so excited until I expanded one and it wouldn't stay open. Once I got it to stay open, it now won't close. So I tried the other one. Same exact story. Also, the nylon holsters are cheaply made. Not very sturdy at all. They came with the stitching all torn up.

$12.99 is very attractive. It looked good at the beginning. I did what many folks recommended: oil it using my bicycle oil. It was very smooth to extend then. Unfortunately, easy extension brought more force on the cap which locks the expandable parts in place. A few days later, I extended regularly and the two sections inside flew out with the cap. I put the cap back in and it can no longer keep expandable sections in place. I am sure it's broken. Call the customer service and asked for a refund. They gave me a return label with no problem. I will ship it back soon. One star for the baton itself and another star for the customer service. Currently looking for another one, but nothing is better than this at this price range. I guess I have to pay more for a better made expandable baton. I don't want to see my extension parts fly out when I am needing and extending it.

Opened it once, and that was that-stuck tight. Even a hand sledge can't budge it. It will do nicely if you leave it open-has good weight., but only good for a single use. This is not the first one of these I've owned, some of them are stubborn, but this one won't even respond to lube.

THE BATON OPENS NICELY SWING FORWARD AND IT TELISCOPES OPEN. BUT IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CLOSE. I GOT TWO OF THEM AND WAS THINKING THERE MUST BE SOME KIND OF TRICK OR SOMETHING TO GETTING IT TO CLOSE BUT THERE IS NOT. YOU HAVE TO POUND IT ON THE GROUND REALY REALY HARD WITH A LOT OF FORCE I CAN NOT PERSONALLY GET IT TO CLOSE i HAVE TO HAVE A FRIEND DO IT FOR ME AND IT'S HARD FOR HIM TO GET IT TO CLOSE AS WELL. DO NOT WASTE YOU MONEY ON THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEAVE IT OPEN. IT'S REALLY DANGEROUS TO USER YOU CAN REALLY HURT YOURSELF TRYING TO CLOSE IT.!!!

Second flick of the wrist, the end came off. Put wd-40 on it and it was able to open and close. When I get home tonight I'll see if it's any better.

I bet this thing could do some damage, if the wielder doesn't mind having the baton extended at all times. Mine is now crooked because I've been trying to close it since I bought it, anyone who's making a decision based on the comments here, invest in a higher quality baton. Huge fan of BUDK but theres a reason these are so cheap

Got these for my bros in my wedding party. Like the most important people, bro in law, brother, cousin, and they loved it so much. But then we really used it outside of the church parking lot and this::;;;;;;; broken, top portion broke out and there is no fixing this? Send us all new ones or wha? We just throw away all 10 of these? UGH come on budk,you did so well. See my pictures. Buy with caution we will see if this complaint contacts me about this,,,,,/? i will reply or change this comment it anything changes. If mine broke on my second use, which means the second time I used concrete to put the baton in, which is the way it is recommended to do ,,,, ummm yea help, where you at bud k, look at my piece?!?! After opening second time it locked in place. I now have a stick. It was tuff enough to close the first time( ps. Not my first rodeo with a baton). Save your money!

This baton is B.A.D. The first day I got it, I swung it open and it wouldn't collapse back in. Then, later that day (when I finally fixed it), the last rod shot out and nearly hit my back door. The rod was eventually so broken that whenever I extended the baton, that rod just fell out.

I received this baton today (5/8/15) and after opening it only 3 times the end of the baton flew off. after trying to fix it I discovered that there was also a great amount of rust in the joints of this baton. I would not recommend this to anyone because it is poor quality and will just be a waist of money.

It flew apart the first time I used it.

i was very disappointed with this product. it is a total piece of junk. not worth the price, even if price was FREE. it didn't want to expand at first, then it expanded too much. the end pieces flew out across the room. very poor quality. would not recommend. not safe or reliable. p**s-poor craftsmanship. i have made several purchases from BUDK and this is the first time i was displeased with the product.

I bought one of these a while back. I deployed it and then it would not reduce back to carry length. I have a friend that purchased one as well and theirs did the same thing. I also removed the end cap to find it all rusted inside. I attempted to apply WD-40 to try and get it to work and that failed. I would not recommend this product at all

Baton flew apart upon opening it. I broke it down and reflared the ends oiled and cleaned it and put back together. Seems to work fine now. But i would not trust it in a fight. I will be looking for a better replacement.

Locks in hard and is hard to close, also I went to open it for the first time and it came apart and went flying but I managed to get it back together and it hasn't happened again, not the greatest baton around.

The baton broke like the fifth or sixth time I expanded it.

This is total garbage. Everything about it is cheap. I've been a long time customer of Bud K for many years. I'm usually pleased with whatever I get from them. It was all froze up when I got it. I thought I would never get it to extend. When I finally did it almost took an act of Congress to get it to collapse again. I don't know if the lubricant is dried out or it's rusty inside or what. The only way this might be effective in a defense situation is your attacker might die laughing when you try to use it. I will be returning it for a refund.

I bought two of these as gifts, and neither of them will lock when extended, not even the first time out of the box! Handle is not textured, but wrapped in a slippery foam instead. Do NOT waste your money on these, there are other options available.

This is easily the cheapest piece of junk I have ever bought from this site. Literally within 10 minutes of receiving this product it broke beyond repair. Don't waste your money.

Broke after trying to extend it 3 times, top piece flew across the room and could have damaged something. No way to fix it. Do not even think about buying. Now I understand the guy who said he broke his window....probably tried to extend it and the top part with the knob went flying through his window.

SAVE YOUR MONEY Although I buy a lot from this web site this baton turned out to be a poor quality item. It is hard to get it to expand and the one I got would not close not matter what I did. I tossed in in the trash. This item is not reflective of the quality of other products this web site sells. BUDK should stop selling this item.

This thing... was horrible. I expanded it once and it broke my window.... with the cost of the baton AND the cost of the window it comes out to the price of a good quality baton I ended up putting liquid concrete on the front piece ant taped it up so it will only expand one way..... "Defend yourself with this baton that is used by police around the world!"-Budk I only believe that this baton is used in third world countries!!!

Was terrible. the top piece broke off after an hour of minimal use. Its garbage. Waste of money.

I got these in the mail a couple days ago and just a warning. These will cause you serious injury if you try to open them. I flick my wrist and it expands with a projectile. The end piece slips out and flies which caused damage to my hard wood floor. I will not buy any more batons from budK. This was the worse purchase I have made. Not only dangerous to yourself but it will leave you open to an attack after trying to defend yourself and failing while at the same time provoking the attacker even more. Save your money and do NOT buy these pieces of junk.

Both the one I bought fell apart after being deployed a few times!! I had to put them back & hammered around the edge so they stay on one piece. Now I know why they are 10$. The item can malfunction when you need it the most. You don't want to be left w/ the stump on your hand once the rest flights away!!!

I purchased this baton back in november and it has been decent until today when I had to use it for a situation and open it and the top half came flying off and broke a window, I was in a hands on situation at work and had to figure out what to do since I needed it and it broke,DON'T BUY IT!!!!. and to top it off budk won't even replace it after 60 days. guess I am out a baton and more money.

I bought this baton thinking it would be a sturdy defense weapon to grab and use when I needed it. I'm glad I didn't need it. BudK has some really great deals, unfortunately this one isn't. Realistically one cannot expect to purchase precision made, high quality steel for $13.00. BudK does sell Smith & Wesson brand steel batons; the 26" goes for $43 and some change. I bought a 21" and two 26" batons from BudK during one of their famous 25% discount sales and they also honored my "buyer's club" status (10% off) so I bought those3 three batons at a deep, deep discount. Consider this a learning experience. However, one must note BudK's generous return policy. For those batons which broke or fell apart upon putting them to use; call BudK, ask for a refund and they will even send you a shipping label to allow you to return the defective baton free of charge. This may be the worst product I have ever bought in my life. The first time I opened the baton the top went flying off across my house, almost smashing a window. in addition, the holster is comes with is also the cheapest thing I've ever felt. Do not waste your money on this product!

the first thing is the nilon sheath broke when i had it on my belt when i was running. and the first time i flicked it out the top of it fell right out and almoast hit my cat.i do not recoment this thing to anybody DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID.

my husband bought several of these for christmas presents and they ALL broke! the tip is not machined properly and flies off when the baton is extended. this first time he flicked the first one open, the tip flew off and smashed my oven door! i made my husband PROMISE he would NEVER buy anything like this from BUDK EVER again!!

Piece of garbage. Stuck open first time I tried to use it. My son got it to close and now it won't open. I'm using it for a paper weight. Would never recommend it to a friend or an enemy. Pure junk!

It looked nice and all but this thing is utter garbage. If I could I'd give this no stars and put 'Wouldn't recommend this to my enemy' I would but I can't. Me working security needed a good baton, DO Not buy this product, when you get it it wont open then when you get it to where it will open the third shaft peice flies out of the baton.. not worth the money, ..

I flicked this baton open yesterday, and the last section came off and flew across the room. It just missed my T.V. screen! If it had hit someone, they would have been seriously injured! I just got it, and this was only the 5th time I ever flicked it open. This baton is dangerous and should be recalled!!

I got this yesterday & I immediately noticed the very cheap holster, pretty made out of shoelace. I also noticed that is wouldn't close after attempting to close it & put it away. I had to slam it on the ground pretty hard about 15 times before it would fully close! CRAP!!! I have had many Batons & ordered a few from here & this is the only one in my opinion that sucks. I can see why the price is listed as is.
